Michigan's 2021-22 roster is posted

I’m higher on Williams making more significant 3-point shooting improvements as a sophomore than Johns as a senior. Williams attempted almost as many threes as Johns last year. Johns played 336 minutes, Williams played 155.

People are talking way too much about Johns shooting 37% from three than shooting 19 threes.

I’m not sure it’s a good thing how many threes Terrance let fly last year while shooting 1/14 on the season. Many of his shots were ill advised. He had irrational confidence haha.

I think Johns has a nicer looking shooting stroke than Williams, but maybe 1/3 of the confidence. Hopefully Johns plays confidently this year like he did in the tournament and then carries that confidence out to the three point line. I’m not as confident as you are that Terrance is a 35% three point shooter after what I saw last year.

He’s 35% over 77 career attempts. In reality, it’s still too early to tell what Johns’ shooting ability is. After the 2027 season we’ll have a better picture.

I’ll put on my Dylan hat and talk about attempts as much as % here. I think we’re going to need to see what the team does with these two aspects of the offense:

1 - How much are they actively trying to get their 4 to space the floor and encouraging them to shoot? Doesn’t matter if it is Johns, Williams, Diabate, or shifting Houstan to the 4 with a small lineup. Do the coaches want/need that position to space things out and get the defense to respect it?

2 - How functional/efficient can the coaches make the offense with a more old-school 4 that doesn’t shoot much? If they unlock some high/low stuff or plays where Dickinson is at the top of the key to initiate offense then suddenly all of the PF work well and we can live with modest attempts and %.

I just read the original post in this thread which has an incredible degree of echo chamber-ness to make it seem as if it is a original report  Writing everything as a first-person observation or thought but stating up front that everything is loosely based on tidbits elsewhere. New genre of post for sure.

Matt’s comments are much more useful IMO.

Yeah the original post was something else. Could not tell where any of the info was from, or if any of it was actual info or just conjecture.

Exactly what I thought, felt like I was taking crazy pills. They’ve had how many practices so far? 2? It seems like a compilation of personal opinions.

One of my favorite offseason takes is that when one of the freshmen goes on Boesch’s podcast (Spoiler: He interviewed all of them (and the ones I’ve listened to are fairly interesting) and someone transcribes the quotes into an article that it means that they are playing better than the others or standing out.

Yeah, I just found myself questioning the OP’s credibility. Who are the"insiders" of whom he speaks?

What are Johns’s percentage from the corner versus above the break? Felt like he shot significantly better (more than most tend to) from there.

Considering the 19 total attempts, I wouldn’t read too much into any sort of location data for his 3P numbers.

But yes, he was 6-of-10 from the corners and 1-of-9 on other threes.

John’s seemed more comfortable attacking close outs from the corner too. Anecdotal evidence of course. Less players to surprise him by rotating over for a charge.

He states in the post that he’s just rounding up things he’s read elsewhere (i.e. articles, interviews, etc.)

“Based on comments from the major blog sites, insiders, etc.”

So he’s just editorializing around those reports. It’s the editorializing that I enjoyed

Matt’s comments further down are far more useful and based on actual observation of practice whether its 1st/2nd/etc. It is at least “new” information.

Ohhhhhhh Mgoblog…lololol.

Agree Matt’s post was more useful, but still nah

I’m going to start calling Terrance Williams “Three Will”

Yes, and my question is which blog sites is he summarizing? Do they have any actual knowledge, or are they just expressing opinions, who are his “insiders” and what are their sources?

Honestly, sources and the credibility of sources is kind of important I think, especially these days with how easy it is for folks to express opinions, many of which often have no basis in real fact and some of which are just designed to get attention. As far as “insiders” are concerned does he have a friend(s) who is a student manager, a player, a member of the coaching staff? Or are his “insiders” a friend of a friend who knows a guy?

Does anyone know who MaizeBlueA2 is? I like what he wrote. I thought it was well constructed and articulately written. I would just like to know who he is and does he or his sources have any real knowledge, any credibility? That’s all.

If you put something out, Dylan I know who you are, or at least as much as that’s possible to know. I don’t ALWAYS agree with everything you say  , but you have earned my respect and have credibility with me. If Sam Webb says something, I know who he is and his connections. He’s a credible source. Dot has credibility with me. I don’t know MaizeBlueA2. Maybe the rest of ya’ll do. That’s all.

I completely agree with what you are saying @silverblue. Sorry if I wasn’t more clear. I really think he’s just summarizing everything he’s read this summer into one post in a format that kind of makes it look like his observations. What you are saying about who said what is why attribution is so important.

What was the part about Diabate being a closer on D instead of Dickinson that was kind of confusing???

Lol if “MaizeBlueA2” is a member here reading everyone, including Dylan, diss him.
