I think you have Houstan too low. He’ll be 30. Bump Brooks up to 32. And now you have 10 minutes to dole out elsewhere which makes sense. In a random game in November maybe Barnes/Collins gets 10 minutes. In a road game in the B10 you give that to the main guys. Thus an 8.5 man rotation like Dylan mentioned.
If Barnes or Collins or Zeb proves to be so good you can’t leave them off the floor you can figure something out. Probably fewer Williams and Johns minutes, maybe only 25 for Jones. Something like that.
When games are pretty tight, expect 7 man rotations. If games are such that we have comfortable leads, expect 8-9 man rotations, especially in the first half. Juwan has done that in the past.
Was Zeb only highlight last season the 6 points vs Taxes Southern on 2/4 from 3? Not sure that he is a high volume shooter but he is not as handicapped as X on the wing. I don’t hold a lot of hope in Zeb but he could be a wild card for the coming season.
I almost left Zeb out. That would get me to 9. Probably have to remove Collins to get to 8; something I refuse in both my head and especially my heart. I’m rooting for Collins so he’s in my rotation
The trouble with projecting Collins is that he can really only play one position. If he’s not a better point guard than DeVante or Eli then it becomes hard to get him many minutes.
Of course Collins is behind Brooks and Jones but I think he’s plenty good enough to play and frankly needs to play. Collins may not match Brooks and Jones at point guard but he may be on par as a contributor as Bufkin or Jackson or whoever. Worst case I thinks he is ninth guy in rotation.
Don’t think Collins came to M to sit on the bench all year. Don’t think he will
Here’s the thing, you can project anyone you want and it’s OK because no one on a fan message board, even UM hoops, knows for sure what the rotation will be. YOU know what my speculative rotation looks like , but I don’t really know either.
None of us really do.
I think it’s great to have some fun with it. Thanks for your original rotation post. It’s engendered some good discussion, some of which I don’t agree with, but that’s OK 'cause what do I know!?!
No. You need to read David Ricardo on comparative advantage. Essentially, he just needs to be better at being the 8th best player on the roster than the other guys who are competing to be the 8th best player. He doesn’t need to be better than the 1st or 2nd best PG.
My point is that if DeVante Jones is as advertised and a 30-35 mpg player and we know Eli is a 35mpg player who can also play the one. It’s potentially more beneficial to give those extra 10-15 minutes at the 1-2 combined to more of a 2/3, or someone like Bufkin. It’s harder to find minutes when you are going to have to run the team during your minutes.
in all likelihood what will happen is we will play almost everybody early on, especially against weaker opponents, and then the rotation will tighten by January. Probably ends up in that 8 ish man size depending on who shows themselves worthy. If more guys are simply too good to keep on the bench, it will be a little bigger. If fewer guys worthy of the minutes it will be smaller. We can project how almost anyone might be good enough to fit in to regular minutes but after 1-2 months of practice and games it will probably be obvious.
If Frankie is only a positive w. the ball in his hand, then you’re probably right, but we know Eli can play off the ball, so the only question is if D’Vante can too. Not clear that either Jones or Collins can. although Jones just spent a year doing it! even so, I would agree, over a hightop … it’s a fair critique.
The other worry I see is shooting is just so atrocious that they can’t put Collins-Jones-shooter-non-shooter-nonshooter on the court. That’s a real possibility.
But I do think (hope) Frankie might have mojo that elevates him v Barnes and Cheeseman and forces Juwan’s hand.
He’s a point guard though, so you need reason to play him at point guard. He could be the 7th best player on the roster and there’s still a situation where he is 9th in the rotation, for example.
