Let’s all make the money sign by rubbing thumb and fingertips together
Wow that is indeed brutal, and Lithuania probably is on par with these other teams. I heard Sabonis was a complete noshow but Franz balled out.
Sabonis was in foul trouble the whole game. He did ok in the second half when he was on the floor. Valunciunas and Wagner were the stars certainly.
Yeah, Franz has improved from last season. It’ll be interesting to see how he’ll play with Paolo but I think both can play off with each other and Franz will benefit with cutting for Paolo for an easy basket. It looks like Franz has improved his 3 pt shooting that shooting high 30s to possibly 40% will be the biggest difference maker for him to be a huge threat from all over the court on offense.
Franz + Paolo + a playmaking PG who can shoot from 3= scary team
I don’t see Franz as a primary ball handler - probably fits with Paolo just fine
Germany vs. Slovenia at 2:30
Big 3 by Franz makes it a 4 point game halfway through the 3rd. His first points of the game
Franz with a quick 6 points in the first 5 minutes…I sort of don’t think he’ll play much today - Hungary is bad, and Germany has already qualified for hte next round. They can pick up marginally (go from 3rd to 2nd in their group) with a win, so the game isn’t completely irrelevant. Hungary, on the other hand, is playing their last game of the tournament.
15 points in a cool 11 minutes for Franz in a Germany blowout
They will grab the 2 seed coming out of group play. They will be playing Montenegro then likely Greece after that. Then after that a semi vs. Spain or Lithuania. A pretty good draw I would say considering they have homecourt advantage. Greece will obviously be tough to beat but Greece played very close games with Croatia and Italy who are similar or probably a bit worse than Germany
How can they be the 2 seed if they’re 2nd in their group?
That’s what I mean. There are no 1 and 2 seeds overall. They are the 2nd seeded team from their group
I’m obviously not familiar with how they do it but I had assumed that teams that won their groups would play teams that finished fourth, then the two and threes would play.
So like Spain, Greece, Slovenia Serbia would be playing teams from the pool of Belgium, Lithuania, Croatia, Finland
You are right. Group A and B face off in round one as do group D and C. Germany is playing the group A 3rd team: Montenegro
Lithuania is an awful gift for whoever won the group and now plays them
This has nothing to do with Michigan guys, but this is sort of where Eurobasket talk is going so…
It’s clear why Slovenia, Serbia, Greece are 3 of your top 4 - they each have one player who is a significant step up from any other player in the tournament other than each other.
Spain’s success is wild to me. Their best player is Willy Hernangomez - an NBA out-of-rotation quality guy. The have 2 other NBA guys - Willy’s brother Juancho, another guy out of a rotation, and Usman Garuba, a 2022 first round pick who is tbd (but also doesn’t play here very much). Lorenzo Brown (heads may remember him as a good player at NC State 12 years ago) naturalized and has been really good for them - he’s been a starter for Euroleague quality clubs for years. Compare that to Lithuania, with 2 good NBA starters (Valunciunas, Sabonis), two Euro heavyweights (Grigonis has been a two-time Euroleague finals MVP, Kuzminskas has a ton of hardware), and Brazdeikis who I think is going to be a top-flight European player…Lithuania is probably just flat out better?
Wonder if Spain calls it a Spain Pick and roll.
well, in France, French Fries are merely Fried Potatoes…
