- killed 3 men
Moās reaction is great. So awesome for them they get to play together
The fact that this many of us are staying up for an 8 PM Monday night matchup between 1-6 Orlando Magic and 3-2 Minnesota Timberwolves just to watch Franz is why this forum is the best.
Sidewalk scouts often make fun of nba scouts/gms but franz and Scottie barnes are proving many nba people do in fact know what theyāre doing. I feel like they were two prospects the sidewalk scouts were way lower on than the actual nba scouts.
Final numbers
There were a lot of Twitter scouts who watched the UCLA game and determined Franz was never any good. Also a lot of Michigan fans who somehow managed to do the same exact thing.
Did people not think Franz and Scottie were good?
Not sure how anyone could watch Michigan games and not see that Franz was a pro already.
Whatās a sidewalk scout though? Maybe Iām missing something.
The most critical people I recall get that both Barnes and Wagner were maybe picked 2-3 spots early. Few had a major disagreement with eitherās draft slot. On Barnes I think the only argument is that Suggs should have gone there.
Also, I hope both are good, but itās like 6 games. Letās wait till these eggs hatch.
From what I recall, Franz was a super trendy pick heading into draft day. Lots of buzz about him at 7 and 8 with an alleged promise by Sacramento at 9 that we were all very concerned about.
Oh he will definitely have rough patches. Teams will adjust, etc. but Iām pretty confident he will be a good pro.
I do remember people overreacting a bit to summer league (I think) which is exactly the kind of environment where Franz would struggle.
Lots of the twitter type nba draft guys and nba media/blogger types that donāt watch much college basketball during the season then scramble to watch some stuff around draft time
Seems like it is time to listen to people who do watch college basketball evaluate college basketball players
Finally, we have a use for the Andy Katz Big Ten top 20
Not the main story here, but worth noting that Teske was active for the Magic tonight (didnāt play).
I agree with Cursedās comment about the Magicās general trajectory - Iām not clear what they have here even if all the guys work out. Carter and Bamba seem to be fighting for the C spot when Isaac comes back. In theory you have Franz and Isaac on the wing, Anthony and Suggs in the backcourt.
In theory thatās a pretty (very?) good defensive team, but one thatās going to struggle to score. Very big, too.
I donāt really remember draft Twitter being out on Franz or Scottie. They were definitely consensus top 10 which was fair. Barnes ended up getting drafted higher than basically anyone thought, so that mostly a Raptors thing and seems like that pick is paying off. Then again rookies in general are playing fantastic this year so far.
Or youāre just talking about like casual non draft focused national media types?
Except for the first two!
I donāt remember anyone dissing Franz as a prospect. Heās been awesome so far. I am most surprised by his outside shot and I wonder if heās just on a hot streak or corrected something. We never saw him shoot this well over this many attempts. He was very streaky.
I will admit to being someone that has been a Barnes skeptic. I remain very wary of an NBA guard/wing who canāt shoot. Barnes has been good so farā¦but with any of these rookies the test will come when the scouting report is out on them.
Be thankful you havenāt suffered through the basketball discussions on 247.
Everything else in his game looks sustainable but I think his shooting is definitely bound to regress. His misses are still often pretty bad from what I remember. I think heāll settle down this year at a league average 3P%, which is still really good.
