Michigan Players in the NBA

Thought we’d moved well past stuff like this, at least here at UMHoops.

They admit it’s only one game, but point to the development he made in the G league regarding quicker decision making to shoot a 3 or drive, and no more long 2’s, and just leveraging his natural ability, quickness, ball handle, and shooting touch to basically make better decisions overall. And he has the potential to be the leading offensive threat of the warrior’s 2nd unit…

In all honesty, I’ve been a Poole supporter through it all, including his choice to go pro.

But c’mon man - that article screams please don’t extrapolate anything based on the sample size! And what does the author do? Poole played a good game, but it was with 3/5 starters (top 2 of 3 scorers) out. They were down double digits the whole game (and while Poole hit some tough shots everyone knows teams do get lackadaisical on D when up that much). Poole has always been able to score. It all comes down to being more than a one dimensional player. I do believe he can be dynamic on O - it’s about improving other parts of his game to be an NBA player.

Anyway, I’m sure the beat writer was bored over all star weekend, but it was such an easy set up I had to take the lay up joke.

I wish Poole absolutely the best, but that article is almost sarcastic.

I see Cade ranked at #10 which I love because that’s appealing to me for the Pistons at #1 overall. Stud

It’s easier to play offense in the pro level because the spacing is wide open compared to college level. I know a couple who played in the pros. They told me that the spacing is wide open but you have to deal with better defenders which is a tough thing to deal with. Regardless, it’s easier to find shots in the pros due to the rule difference between both levels.

Great comment Guest. The bigger, quicker defenders are probably making things much harder for JP.

He came in with Isaiah, right? Fascinating to think about all that he’s been through in the meantime. Still got a minute to deal with some of these challenges.

When looking up Isaiah’s switch to #2 after Jordan left, I realized that Poole committed to Michigan all the way back in October of 2015(!) – almost five and a half years ago! That made me feel old.

I love that pic - Poole was one of my favorite Michigan players. Loved his antics and personality. Also this made me remember the "drip bros’

It sounds very likely Caris Levert will return within a week.

No offense to Jordan, and I hope it’s true, but declaring a newly called up G-Leaguer a playoff contender’s “key” and “second most talented offensive player” after he has 1 good game when no starter takes the floor is sort of revealing the hazards of requiring writers to churn out a piece about a team on a daily basis.

He did have another ok stat line last night, but the Warriors were down 36 entering the 4th quarter (lost by 26) so…we’ll see.

Haha, agree. Article title was a little click-baity, odd for the Athletic. And the points you made are valid, and the author addressed them. But to be fair I think the spirit of the article was one of hope and potential. I thought the specifics on what he was working on improving in the G league were interesting. But yeah of course we’ll just have to see if any improvements are sustainable.

I think that’s the key point. It feels more like a “prediction” than a “hot take”. If it was just breathless about the one game, I’d agree, but since it was proactively addressed, I don’t think it was meant as click bait.

Caris is set to make his Pacers debut tonight!

Didn’t watch for obvious reasons, but from the box score, it would appear Jordan Poole had a nice game today. 22 mins of PT against Utah (best record in the NBA) with 18 points on 13 shot equivalents, in a GSW win.

Seems like Kerr is giving him a bigger role since the G-League call up which is a good thing for Poole. He’s been playing well in the last 3 games which bodes well for his future playing time.

Looks like DJ Wilson is getting traded from Milwaukee to Houston. Hopefully he’ll get more run down there
