With only one step into it and a natural shooting-motion, I’m guessing I land it right on the block/charge line.
I played on a high school hoops team that travelled to Portland for some exhibition games a few years ago, where we practiced at the Moda Center once before a Blazers game. I remember a few of us had to change up our forms just to adjust to NBA range, and our shots started to look like chucks more than anything else. I don’t think adjusting from high school threes to college threes is that hard, but it’s still crazy to me that these players can shoot 40>% contested from NBA range consistently, and even more impressive seeing how effortless that logo Duncan three was.
I agree. My son plays for a pretty competitive travel program at the 8th grade level where you’re starting to see who the elite players are going to be. They all try to shoot 3s and the difference between when they shoot from the high school line to when they shoot even a little deeper is stark. Even watching our local high school team play that’s true for just about every player. These guys shoot completely normal.
(I’ve also thought something similar when it comes to the change in football from the NCAA to the NFL. No one ever mentions that adjustment.)
Jealous of you baller dads – enjoy! My older one’s a great kid but just not into it, or team sports in general. I was really hoping to coach. Back before he begged off soccer there were just some great times coaching that. Maybe my little one will get into it.
In my high school days…no 3pt line…you got kicked out of practice for trying to shoot way out there. It’s crazy how well they shoot threes now.
I have three kids and my oldest two are boys that are about 2 years apart. They could not be more different. Oldest one tried a bunch of sports and didn’t like them and/or wasn’t good at them. He’s completely invested in the arts now though - music, acting, performing, etc.
My second one is a total jock. Plays travel baseball, soccer, and basketball. Consumes more sports content than me.
Nature? Nurture? Who knows…enjoy them for who they are and find ways to get involved no matter what.
I forget what writer I brought that up to a year or two ago and he said (granted this was pre-COVID) that he can’t imagine teams giving up a row or two of seating/sales. Perspectives may have changed now. I can imagine there being some preference from players to keep the roomier bench set-up they are currently using so maybe a wider court could be considered too.
I think an added foot to 1 1/2 feet on each side would be great, and allow for the corner 3’s to be moved back too. I know somebody was talking about a 4-point line but I think the 3 should just be a little tougher. Maybe 24’ 6" all the way around?
That’s the Steph Curry effect. There are more kids shooting 3s than ever and they’re doing it a lot better than 10-15 years ago.
That’s it, Tom. Crown Juwan and UM champions. I believe you can do it, kinda.
I am trying my damn hardest to pretend to be interested in Minecraft. HELP.
I couldn’t actually pull that off. And my daughter still accepts me.
It is possible to coach without a kid on the team. A bit easier really. But, probably not ideal while your kids are still kids.
Just harder to justify, especially with, in a normal world, significant work travel. But when older, yeah. For sure.
I tried it “one more season” when my 11 year old decided he was done with soccer. It was difficult to justify spending time away from him and my spouse. Always thought I would pick it up again but work got in the way.
I’m very thankful to have the support of my family as I’ve coached youth football for the past five years without having a kid in the program. They don’t go to the games and they aren’t directly involved like they were when I coached Little League, but they let me do my thing since it helps me stay sane and somewhat connected to my community. Also, I don’t coach anything in the spring anymore, so my time at home is still a net plus.
Moe had a season-high 21 points (8-13 FG/1-2 3-PT) last night, to go with 7 boards and 5 assists.
From what I can see, they were below the tax threshold and even below the cap, so maybe they’re just trying to save money. He was voluntarily away from the team “for personal matters” which is obviously a giant amorphous question mark that could potentially be the motivation here too.
