Well, he has had Walton for 4 years. Would like to think he would have a good idea what he does well and what he needs to work on.
This is what he said in the interview: āSo we picked it up that Derrick, our guards weāre going back. We have all these coaches, and we hadnāt picked put that Derrick was going backwardsāā¦Good for him for admitting it. Now they can fix it.
I donāt think he abandons scoring down low, but heās not going to do it through post ups. We get our points at the hoop through drives, backdoor cuts and slashes to the hoop. Bigger issue for us scoring inside is that our guards are not penetrating.
No, you are right. The offense has built-in action going to the basket. It depends on penetration and excellent ball movement to make it effective. Good to see they have recently identified both these issues as integral to running it effectively.
Iām seeing more action where the pick is set across court and the player dumps down to the post for a temporary post up before clearing through to the corner. I think that action has been run with Duncan and DJ quite a bit here in these gimme games and want to see them work it with Mo some. I see them evolving to feature these guys more, but itās slow in progressing.
Yea, I love this play in basketball. Particularly if its to moe or dj. defender is trailing just a bit,hit the guy and he has the advantage as the defender is trying to stop a quick lay up. Head fake or spin off and you got the defender off balance.
