I’m thinking the Cameo leak made this become official now
No doubt that Beilein and our compliance department are on top of all that. Probably something that has to be made official outright to avoid any semblance of rules violations.
All just interesting food for thought. We all thought Simpson > Winston a year ago. Now everyone believes Winston > Simpson. Winston improved a lot year over year but I also believe there were other factors. Having been at both the game in AA and the game in Chicago against MSU, I know where I am placing blame. I couldn’t believe what I was seeing on the floor at times. When 1 team has break downs happening over and over, it is very discouraging for the overall team
I don’t think we needed to lose either of those games.
Just like X and Teske improved tremendously over the last year and a half, so should we expect big improvements with the freshman class becoming sophomores. The pre-conference slate in 19/20 will be very important and JB will need to make a more concerted effort in getting the rotation worked out during the pre-conference season. Odds are probably that Iggy will not be back which means replacing three starters although Livers could be considered a starter which leaves two. Johns will need to a vital part in the rotation at the 4 at and DDJ at the one and two or we will be teaching freshman and transfers a new system on the fly.
Agreed. Time for this highly touted recruiting class to step up. DDJ and Castleton also need to show big improvements. I am betting on Castleton becoming a breakout player for us. I hope DDJ gets to the next level. He could help the offense tremendously.
To me, Isaiah IS a starter. He has certainly started many games during his career thus far at Michigan. He will be one of the foundations for next year’s team, along with X and JT.
You start with that assumption, no? I still have high hopes Isaiah becomes a star.
Livers looks to me like the type of four-year contributor who are just so valuable.
Yeah, he’s I think he’s played well for us, very good at times. I also thing he has talent we haven’t seen from him…yet. I agree, I think Isaiah can be a star. The BEST is yet to come!
I am pretty confident in Brandon Johns and Castleton stepping up.
I will say that DDJ showed very little (felt like it was less than other freshman PGs in the past), but idk. He definitely has to take a big step forward.
Feel like Nunez has to be a show as a viable player as well, even if it is just mostly a deadeye shooter. Has to be able to contribute in some way. Roster can’t hold a 4 year project imo, gotta see production by sophomore year.
I think he’ll succeed. He showed outstanding foot speed/quickness, and that quality will shine once he knows what he’s doing on the floor.
I was thinking that DDJ’s explosiveness off the dribble was underwhelming, but that the shot will start falling and he’ll do just fine attacking closeouts.
I think back to Izzo going to watch Foster Loyer and his top ranked Clarkston team take on a lower tier team with DDJ. It was at Clarkston and at halftime Clarkston had a double digit lead I believe. DDJ put on a show in the 2nd half and scored over 40 points and led his team to an upset victory and clearly outplayed Loyer.
MSU played 4 freshmen this year and they all stepped up (maybe not Loyer). There is no reason to believe our higher rated recruiting class will be all duds. I think just the opposite.
Well in DDJ’s case just look back at what X showed his first year. Nothing, then his sophomore year he figured it out. We should expect the same for DDJ.
It was a neutral venue where the game was played as part of a 1 day showcase with multiple games. At North Farmington high school I believe. It could be YouTube’d pretty easy. That was a very big game in the state that was very talked about. Clarkston was up like 20 with 6 minutes left in the 4th and Dave and East English came back to win by 10ish. I was supposed to cover the game but was in Las Vegas. I remember being quite annoyed I missed that game but I got over it quickly being in Vegas in late December instead of the cold weather up here.
Here is one of the videos of that game: https://youtu.be/r9GXLOIQajM
This is great. Thanks for posting. I was basing this on my memory and I am in my 50’s. Shouldn’t trust my memory anymore. Watching some of these highlights makes me all the more confident that DDJ is going to emerge as a player here. Just need to get him comfortable. He has some offensive weapons that we can use as a team. Looking forward to him taking the next step.
Gonna be interesting to see whether all those pieces fit next year for MSU. If Langford can shoot 3s, that’d be huge. If not, pack the paint.
I agree but I have faith that class will shine through, starting this year. I’m very confident johns and castleton have nice years in their respective roles.
Close. Clarkston dominated the first half and scored with ease. Loyer was more of a facilitator as his teammate led them in scoring. Currie was a presence in the paint, mostly on the glass. Believe Clarkston led by 18 or 20 at half.
EE goes to the locker room and stays there about 5 minutes. Never seen anything like that before in my life. I thought they must have quit. Second half starts and Clarkston is mostly maintaining the lead but things started to get interesting late in third quarter as DD started hitting from everywhere and EE started pressuring Loyer all over the court. Lead was cut to 10 or so at close of third quarter.
During the fourth DD continued to dominate and his teammates decided to join in.
Never seen a more dominate performance by a guard in the time I’ve been watching Michigan high school ball. Literally it was DD v a loaded Clarkston team. Deep midrange layups you name it. He had every shot.
And the only time I saw Loyer get rattled in high school.
