Excellent, gotta get this announcement done, it is time we as a fanbase start speculating on assistants and filling up our roster already…
Jalen Rose, Ray Jackson & Jimmy king as the three assistants. Chris Webber will now be the athletic director, and Michael Talley replaces Mark Schlissel as school president.
What, no Rob Pelinka?
LeBron and D-Wade stamps of approval.
Well, at least we have an in for Lebron Jr.
That can’t hurt on the recruiting trail.
I really doubt Yaklich returns and there is just no damn way Jalen is in
There’s a poster on MGoBlog who’s been right on the money about the search so far. He says Yaklich has agreed to come back for one more season.
Other sometimes reliable (sometimes FOS) sources reporting similar. May be a thing.
Whatever they were they seem to be on to something from what I can tell.
Smart move IMO. Does a solid for the school and sets himself up for the next go around. Should be a HC somewhere in 2020.
If Yak can salvage the 2019 recruiting class, it’s a good look for him.
This would be a second piece of very good news. Hoping to wake up tomorrow to see official confirmations of press conferences.
Also his son is going to be a Sr in HS
Maybe he’s right but Jeff Moss is not much more than an internet troll.
It just seems like an odd keep - Yaklich does what Howard does as a coach. It would be similar to Beilein hiring an offensive specialist that ran a post-centric offense.
Howard played under then-DC David Fizdale in Miami, and coaches with him. Fizdale himself was running a defense largely constructed by Spoelstra who Howard has coached under for his entire tenure, replacing Fizdale’s responsibilities. Miami has always been a significantly more aggressive defense than Michigan, focused on forcing turnovers and running.
Jalen Rose as an assistant would be an absolute disaster
Moss is an internet troll, but he’s a guy who when gets info it’s usually pretty correct
Maybe they can combine their knowledge. Also Yak could want to coach other areas. That would help him procure a new job and be more successful when he gets there.
Yeah it’s possible. Retaining Yaklich would sort of suggest to me that Howard is more interested in being a CEO than having many strong strategic thoughts of his own…which could concern me (as does the rumor that he wants to bring back the exiled Fisher assistant from Kalamazoo). I know we like Yaklich (I do too!) I just don’t know that a defensive head coach retaining a defensive coach who wants to be a head coach, soon, is the best fit.
