Iffff we were to look for a coach who would be realistic targets?

Yes, that’s it. I couldn’t remember that name.

That settles it. Hire the man!

Agreed lol. I will say it’s a wildly entertaining account to follow tho. They got some interesting characters tweeting from that profile.

You couldn’t remember it?? But that’s their whole thing! Easy to remember

All I remember is that when I do a search for mock drafts the one that sounds the most official is not any good.

Are our standards for who we want to hire Beilein’s lows? If not, your argument has zero merit.

As noted, his teams at VCU weren’t better, given the level of competition, which was CAA and A-10.

And sorry, you can’t have it both ways. If he’s actually an “elite” recruiter, why have his teams at Texas been so mediocre? Who has he sent to the NBA, other than Bamba (who he had for one year, and did nothing with)? Pleading bad “luck” is just an excuse for bad coaching.

Huh? His recruiting classes have been ranked 18th, 6th, 6th, 8th, and 15th in the country. He’s recruiting better than pretty much every non-blue blood coach. He has had three people so far play in the NBA in his four seasons as coach (Taylor, Allen, Bamba) and with Hayes being a projected lottery pick it’ll be 4 in 4 years.

I agree that Shaka’s results aren’t good for the talent, but let’s not just blatantly make shit up to try and make a point on the internet.

How many UM fans were super jazzed about the Beilein hire? I recall a lot of grumbling about him when he was announced as the guy. I’ve been a huge fan of his since his time at Richmond and knew he had a record of resurrecting dead programs, so I was over the moon when Michigan hired him. I was 100% sure they made the right choice and felt that Michigan fans who were complaining at the time understood little about college basketball.

Personally, I don’t care if people aren’t excited about a guy who is not a household name. It’s about getting the best man for the job, and there are several mid-major coaches I mentioned earlier in this thread that I would have felt better about than the names we’re hearing now. edit: I should add, however, that I do not believe any of them would have been a sure thing, whereas I thought that was exactly what Beilein was.

Butler has really gone downhill under LaVall Jordan, so I hope he is not seriously being considered. I watched several of their games this past season, since I typically have enjoyed watching Butler play over the past two decades, and it was painful to see how poorly they played—and with their talent level I believe they would have been right up there with Villanova and Marquette last year had Holtmann still been around.

Someone here said it best shortly after Beilein quit on our dreams: “We’re boned,” I believe is the proper citation.

I think he’s been pretty good, but I’m not putting down big money on him making a Final Four in the next few years just yet. They play solid defense. Their offense has been nothing special.

Most fans were excited over the hire

Unfortunately since this site wasn’t around yet I can’t look for reactions here. All I found was stuff like this.

edit: I also found this in an mgoblog mailbag regarding the recruiting.

I remember a large contingent of fans who were disappointed with the Beilein hire. Mostly because of his perceived inability to recruit Michigan/Detroit.

Just do not believe the lack of excitement over Juwan Howard. Guess I don’t value previous head coaching experience all that much, it either means “washed-up retread” or “hasn’t done it in under bright lights”. For every Holtman, there’s an Archie or a Kevin Keatts.

I remember the reaction to Beilein being decidedly “meh”

I wanted Lowery :joy:

man I just remember everyone being confused at why Beilein wouldn’t throw it to the post.

I was fired up about Beilein. The man took West Virginia to the Elite Eight! I didn’t see why couldn’t do likewise here. Plus his teams were really fun to watch.

One thing I’m sure we can all agree on is that tomorrow is going to be so much better than last Monday. It’s gonna be a huge improvement, and that’s gonna be great!

To be fair, beyond Keita Bates-Diop, the offensive players have been nothing special. Last year’s team? Laughably poor offensive talent. Expecting much better than 85th in adjusted offensive efficiency would be like squeezing a turnip and expecting blood. The 2017-18 team was quite solid, though, at 22nd in AOE.

I was very happy with JB, the other guy I really liked was Tony Bennett.
