GR3 pressing

Needs to stop. Needs to understand who he is. Needs to stop In order to be best team we can be.

GRIII doesn’t need to “understand who he is.” It will help if he stops pressing. Here’s an example. GRIII got the ball poked from behind a time or two against ISU after grabbing a rebound. GRIII does not need to learn that he can’t grab a board and begin a break. He is fully capable of this. He does need to impove his awareness of trailing players and improve his ability to decide when to pull or pass. THJr needed similar improvements and for the most part accomplished them. GRIII likely will too.

GR3 pressing will be a good thing in the long run. Can’t find your spots on the floor if you stay passive. He has all the tools to do it as well.

Not concerned with his offense, handle looks improved, so does footwork. Last year he was limited to spot up shooting and layups/dunks off Burke passes. This year he has shown the ability to get in the lane and pull up for a mid range 8-15 shot, and has created shots for others on multiple occasions. He is never going to be Chris Paul, but we don’t need him to be that.

Defense on the other hand, is my primary concern. Much better effort from GR3 on the perimeter D last night, and did a decent job rebounding in traffic, but geez was his post defense awful.

If GR3 is gonna play the 3- we should all be concerned because he can’t take anyone off the dribble. We should not play 2 bigs for 2 reasons.

  1. 2 bigs do not include our best players
  2. Do not want GR3 playing the 3.
He can’t create. Just stay near bucket and get the garbage. What NBA team takes a 6’ 6 guy that can’t create and has just an average three point shot? I don’t get it. Not saying he’s not good. Just saying he is good at being around basket… Not creating.

The same thing was said about Andre Iguodala and Paul George. Not to say he is of their caliber but his ceiling is what entices teams. A guy like Oladipo was essentially a smaller GR3 in his 2nd year and you saw the leap he took his JR year. He has definitely improved his ball handling and fluidity in his jump shot motion off the bounce .
