Game 28: Michigan State at Michigan Open Thread

What was Winston eFG%? 27 points on 13 shots. Wow.

Simpson took two more shots than Cassius.

It really is a guard-driven game. When your PG is your best player, that makes life a lot easier.

I still believe in Z in that matchup. Every dog has its day.

Winston’s been hearing, “yeah, but” for two years. Today he got his. Even a shut down corner has a bad day at the office now and then.

Maybe they thought they would catch Winston out with the double-team by throwing it at him early on, but. . . I thought it sent a curious signal about Simpson’s ability to guard him, and–well–backfired.

Also thought we saw what everyone’s been saying about dubious ball-handling by Iggy Livers. Obviously what they need to work on over the summer.

Dunno what went down with Poole and the officials; looked like that live ball foul with McQuaid looked clean at a time when we needed a break. . .

I’m too chicken to respond with this to jamo, but I will leave it here.

Kinda refutes the notion that the offense wasn’t a problem. First time in a while that I thought Izzo outcoached Beilein.

Wonder if anybody in the B1G this year has scored 27 points on 13 shots?

It’s not an issue with the program, analytics will tell you unless your really good at post ups it’s not a good idea. He is right that post ups are just something we don’t do and our post entry passing is dreadful.

I don’t know, build the kid a statue. I’ll take the guy who f’d up his world 3 games in a row before this one.

Can we call it a conscious decision by the coach, then? I’m sorry, but I’m still flummoxed by JMo’s tweet earlier.

What did he say? Okay, found it. Didn’t we do a lot of that high hedging last year? Didn’t it come in for some criticism then? Still don’t understand the rationale.

I thought the bigs hedged too hard and long this game. MSU frequently found the roll man for layups and even if that guy didn’t score, they’d make a one more for a easy look. That was the worst ball screen defense I feel like Michigan has played this year. Maybe I’m over emphasizing it because of who they lost to but almost all their offense was ran through ball screens. Super frustrating they couldn’t stop it when they knew beforehand it was what they were going to do.

It wasn’t that he took issue with the high hedging that threw me off, it was this:

Now, he could be talking about hitting the roll man after they switch. Sure your big has a guard on him, but you have a big on you blocking out the sun. It’s not always an easy thing.

I just feel that JMo is adding to the easy layman narrative that I’ve seen all over that you just need to dump it into the post (Even Raftery called for it during the broadcast.), but I feel that if anyone should know why this team doesn’t do it or won’t do it, it’s him.

What’s next, is Nik going to tweet out how this team shouldn’t do so many PnRs or shoot 3s? Is Bacari going to ask why the team has a dog on the locker room walls? Baffling to me.

Jmo was frustrated because he cares and doesn’t want his school that he loves to lose to a team he dislikes. People need to quit making a huge deal about it.

I love his passion, I love what he gave to the program and his commitment to service now, but otherwise I’ll agree to disagree. It’s no Archie Island, but I’ll die on this island.

If only Johns had played in those cupcake games, THEN he’d be ready to play against MSU. Because practicing against Teske/Livers/Iggy every day is more valuable than 5 minutes in a guarantee game. Gotta love that you are both uninformed and condescending

Haha downvotes and condescension? That quickly spiral into Mgo levels of discussions
