Game 17: Michigan at Iowa Open Thread

Very frustrating season suddenly. I get livers is hurt but they should have had these last two. Foul shot discrepancies, some odd coaching decisions, along with missed chances late. Really burns.

I feel like I’ve been watching my buffalo bills the last few games . I look at the scoreboard and am like ā€œwtf just happened? How did we just lose thatā€

57-11 fta over the last two games is beyond absurd

Not so sure it’s all to do with free throws. We don’t attack the basket that often. At Minnesota we shot 6, and vs. Purdue we shot 24, but DDJ shot 10 of those! We were losing and he, our second best playmaker, was on the bench in favor of Davis, who collected one rebound and didn’t make a single stop on defense. Hard to stomach. But I’m being emotional right now :sob:

More like 30 ft to 5 had nothing to do with anyone’s play on the floor.

I really like Davis but I agree. Ddj needed to be out there.

While the substitution pattern at the end was bad, I did like the play Howard Drew up out of the TO to get Brooks a catch and shoot corner three.

DDJ is your bucket getter on this team. Hard to understand.

Broadcast announced that points in the paint was approximately equal tonight. So clearly there’s something else up.

We definitely didn’t deserve as many free throws as Minnesota or Iowa, but 57-11 FTA is ABSOLUTELY laughable. That’s possibly 2 W’s if officiated fairly.

I think being down one and Iowa’s next two possessions getting a Kreiner three and a shot clock violation while Michigan got two open threes from Brooks and Wagner resulting in Iowa’s lead extending to four is the stupidest fucking thing I’ve ever seen.

I thought substitution patterns were bad throughout the game. It’s like we were dead set on matching up to Ryan Kriener, a bench guy, even though our best runs (all season) have been with small lineups.

Make them guard US!

Yeah, execution (shooting really) down the stretch has not been great other than when X went off vs Purdue, that’s a problem the team has to be accountable for. Of course, it shouldn’t have come down to that if the FT disparity was even somewhat fair, but nonetheless winnable if we had made our open shots.

Yup, just missed the big shots inside 3-4 minutes again. So similar to the MN game. Right there for us, they made a few tough shots, we missed really good looks. Dems the breaks, I guess.

Welcome to life as a Michigan fan. Expect to be let down and you won’t be disappointed!

DDJ played okay I think, but only had 10 on 12 shots. Brooks put up 25 on 17. Seemed like a good number to call in the situation.

DDJ’s shot, when off, is really off (wide mostly). That’s why I’m sometimes skeptical to believe he can sustain his shooting. I’d like to see him drive more and create for himself and others that way. The three should come off of open looks rather than forces.

That’s a good point re: DDJ’s shot. When he misses it’s a baaad miss. I recall the FTs he missed down the stretch of the Purdue game were way to the side.

That’s … that’s quite a stat. Wow.

I bet that stat is similar every year. Just the way it goes on the road.

I’ll go back to this: if we’re losing in crunch time, why play two bigs when neither are rebounding or playing defense particularly well? Let’s get the guy who can create off the dribble.
