Game 15: Michigan at Wisconsin Open Thread

Aren’t you a sponsor for Mgoblog?

Wonder what jobs Saddi would hold out for - with him turning down his alma mater, can’t see anything like a MAC job swaying him. Maybe a solid MVC/A10 job?

Yeah I’ve really enjoyed finding this community. 247’s board is more like mgoblog (not as toxic, but still meh just with so many people there). I’ll still post occasionally due to the insiders being solid, but this place really fills 100% of my forum needs. It’s a very unique size and setup that I think lends itself pretty well to people being more well behaved than on other sites.

An underrated aspect to this site is the lack of any kind of downvote button. If you disagree with someone you have to formulate why and explain publicly. I really like that.

IIRC, I’m pretty sure the financial situation at Western is an absolute mess

If the doubters let Juwan hold on to Saddi even longer, then let them doubt.

I bet he can get a high major job somewhere whenever he’s ready to make the jump. JMO.

I’d love to see someone analyze the coaches that go from HM Asst → Bad HM compared to HM Asst → Good MM. I feel like the MM path is probably the better stepping stone but I’m not always sure it is seen as appealing.

The problem is that the only assistants that get hired by high majors are if you work for Coach K or other high profile coach. Even Stephens and Fife have been waiting for a high major to hire them for a decade.

Did Butler hire LaVall Jordan straight out of Michigan? I can’t recall.

How many guys have made the recent jump of assistant to P5 HC (can expand to the Big East as well) without having another HC gig in between (such as Capel)? Can’t think it’s too many.

I wonder if Drake and Loyola would have interest if they opened up this offseason.

Went to Milwaukee first

I think the key to making the jump is replacing a coach who was hired elsewhere at a MM. Way easier than replacing a coach who was fired.

I believe Saddi earns in the vicinity of $400K. Western’s head coach is paid approx. $220K and that was subsequently reduced due to Covid cutbacks.

I also wonder if BC would take a gamble on Howard Eisley if they ever got around to firing Jim Christian.

Hey, sorry. I don’t follow game threads in real time (I expect this one will be a beauty to flip through later tonight) and I don’t have the game recorded. I did notice a couple of plays where Bo made the call but seemed to be the least likely official to be in a position to make the call, so maybe this was one of them.

If Michigan keeps rolling, i think that Eisley will get a more than a decent shot.

He keeps such a low profile that it is hard to know what his ambitions are. I think if we keep rolling you could see any of them get a shot.

I am also curious about Chris Hunters future. He’s been behind our bench for a long time. Good gig I guess, but curious whether he is content to hope for an assistant spot or jump to another school for it.

Also worth pointing out the too often undervalued labor that goes into most good online communities, good moderation. Makes a huge difference

Heh, yeah. I was a moderator on a pretty big Reddit sub, r/musictheory, for a bit and dealing with the crazy ass people, actually referring mostly to the other moderators, made me gain respect for people who can moderate a space without becoming completely insane. So props to Dylan for putting up with us.

Not being much of a social media user, I’m not familiar with that particular subreddit. But being someone who at one time nearly applied to grad school for music theory, I imagine that’s a pretty interesting forum.

Anyway, not trying to totally derail this thread that is already pretty well off-topic. Happy for the big win today after such a long layoff. Juwan is a very good coach, nuff said
