Game 14: Michigan at Purdue Open Thread

Now comes the nail biting for the next week plus to see if we get any COVID positives popping up

The rotation the whole game was near perfect

If I’m not mistaken, the whole 2nd half was played within a band consisting of an 11 point - 17 point lead.

They got it down to 10 at one point (42-32)

Correct on Higgins — he did the Nebraska game, and no Michigan games last year.

Kelly Pfeifer did that game also, plus Northwestern and Wisconsin.

Comfortable wire to wire wins at Mackey Arena: ladies and gentlemen, Juwan Howard.

I really hate games like this where one team is clearly superior and the other team just tries to muck it up and mug people.

hot take: that is Juwan’s best single-game coaching performance at Michigan so far

I could be convinced otherwise because of the Stefanovic absence, but:

  • Utterly weird circumstances

  • True road game against a hot opponent with traditionally elite HCA

  • No self-doubt coming off our own road steamer

  • Ref nonsense

  • Great rotations

  • No panic with foul trouble

etc etc.

Great result. Not saying any of the calls on us weren’t fouls, but man, if you’re going to call everything… gotta call it both ways. The standard they were holding us to, a team like Purdue shouldn’t be able to make it through a possession without getting whistled.

I expect more of the same when this team travels to Breslin.

Before you lift the pivot foot off the floor ball needs to be down.

“We’ve got to do a better job of defense.” — Juwan Howard after holding Purdue to 53 points on about 67 possessions.

I think I like Coach.

This team is scary. They didn’t even shoot well or finish a lot of looks they normally do and the refs were very shakey yet they still win at Mackey by 16.

Yes. Everyone needs to re-up their subscription to this site after that rotation staggering.

With the officiating the way it was, and some sloppy turnovers, that was an impressive win to simply just control the game wire to wire against a hot team on the road.

One tiny nit-pick…when Johns was at the 5 against Edey, we still had him in the post on offense. At least pull Edey out of the lane…he was really effective for them.

Highest floor and maybe even highest ceiling of any non Baylor/Gonzaga team. Just stay healthy please.

Ref nonsense. For sure. At one point I wondered LOUDLY why the hell they were even out there.!

Terrifies me. I don’t really understand how Purdue can claim a guy they live practiced with isn’t a spreader, but what do I know.

This was a man’s game this evening. Purdue had three freshman starting tonight, and five freshman in their rotation. You could tell. But could also tell Purdue is going to get a lot better and be good for a long time.

Glad we have the experienced team we have. The difference tonight!

Yeah I mean I usually try to ignore and/or stay silent on the topic but tonight was beyond the pale
