These refs are absolute trash.
Screw these refs
Itâs been an interesting whistle this evening.
This foul disparity is brutal
if eli says he didnt foul, he didnt foul
These guys are a joke
tuff Davis, this game has been, um, oddly officiated.
Wow. First time all season weâve seen atrocious reffing. Yikes.
Love fouls 3 seconds after the play
What a terible call on Davis for boxing out! These Refs are horrible combining with Purdue starting to hit shots and Michigan turnovers this could be close finish.
Man, Smith can turn on the jets
Not able to see the game, so figured Iâd address the travelling issue that came up right near the start. There is no such thing as a âgather stepâ in NCAA rules. If your dribble ends while moving, or you catch the ball while moving, and one foot is on the floor, that foot becomes your pivot foot. The common thought of players being allowed a certain number of steps is incorrect. Once you lift that pivot foot, it cannot be returned to the floor unless youâve passed, shot prior to that foot returning to the floor. I think it was @CursedBlue who said that almost every layup attempt would be a travel if that were the case. Technically, he is correct, and that is, IMO, the major problem with the current travel rule (which hasnât changed in forever). âLayup stepsâ are clearly an accepted move. It would be ridiculous to call a travel every time someone makes a layup (but Iâve seen rookie officials do it ). The rule is why a proper Eurostep is so difficult to do without technically travelling (grab a ball sometimes and try to Eurostep properly, without travelling; it is DIFFICULT). The main reason many travels arenât called on attempted Eurosteps and spin moves is that the players are so quick that it can be extremely difficult to know for certain when the playerâs dribble ended. A good example is Marcus Carrâs 2nd half spin move last weekend, where he clearly travelled when watching the replay. In real time, with the player only a few feet from you, itâs a different, much quicker ballgame, and you canât call a travel unless you KNOW it was a travel.
The game would be much better, and easier to officiate, if the NCAA went to international (FIBA) travel rules. Under FIBA rules, if your dribble ends or if you catch a pass while moving, the basic idea is that youâre allowed â2 stepsâ. We switched to FIBA rules in Canada several years ago, and they allow for so much more freedom of play. It is also much easier for officials to identify travels.
All that weâre missing is Ivey pouring a bucket of confetti on Franzâs head.
I have such an appreciation for Eliâs game. What a calming presence, so solid in all aspects. Itâs been so much more noticeable since that Minnesota game.
Man screw that ref. We canât touch without a foul
Eli is a silent assassin
Stop doubling
Ethan Morton doesnât want smoke from Franz
Franz doesnât have it on offense but his defense is still elite
