Game 11: Southern Utah at Michigan Open Thread

I do like Frankie, Kobe, and Zeb as others are pointing out too. Maybe play more guys/lineups and ride the hot hands?

My mom is absolutely skewering Howard’s Herd right now. Calls it “ridiculous and embarrassing.” Adds “they probably don’t wash those cow outfits.”

This is all I hoped for in this game. But lets not forget this team has had some good games this season against inferior teams. Then there is the eye test on SUU, they are not very good and they are not very big. Not looking at kenpom or metrics…

I know I’ve bashed Jones a bit and been in favor of more Kobe and Zeb. But having watched the game with no awareness of the game thread, Jones looks like the best version of what we need from him I have seen. Only noticed 1 unforced turnover 1st half. I am at 16:05 in the second, a bit behind. Mind you, Southern Utah looks like they couldn’t win a high school conference championship.

Edit: Siri gave me Cody instead of Kobe.

Yes, but they’re favored to win their conference

This is a strong KenPom time outing so far

Would have been nice to see that back when you were getting early minutes, Nunez

But your POV is influencing your perceptions. Perhaps Michigan is making SUU look bad. They don’t have any amazing wins this year, but they did take Cal to overtime. Knight and Jones have put up big numbers, although much of it against mediocre competition.
And, as has been pointed out, they were 20-4 last year with many of these same players, and were the #1 seed in their conference tournament, before they got upset. The team that did win the Big Sky, Eastern Washington, was a 14 seed.

I might’ve missed it somewhere, but are Isaiah and Will legitimately red-shirting?

Faulds filling the stat sheet!

Tschetter is definitely redshirting. Barnes has played a few minutes but I’m not sure the plan there. They have loosened some of the rules I believe. Would make sense for him to RS.

I assume they must be, if they haven’t been able to get into this game.

Great win. Need to put another few games like this together. I liked our offense, but we still need to communicate better on defense. Hopefully these next 2 buy games help them accomplish that. Go Blue!

Collins’ free-throw shooting is difficult for me to understand. It’s bad enough that he could face some hack-a-frank during the conference season.

Still work to do. Like what I saw from DJ, Zeb and Kobe. Still not sure about the 4 rotation. Offense flow needs deep shooting to continue and defense work in progress against teams that have size to match us. Wings continue to challenge with drives from the wing to the far side of the hoop.

Nice win. Keep it moving.

BTW, Purdue apparently bought out IU… the next game is against Purdue-Fort Wayne, not IPFW. (Thankfully, IUPUI appears to be unaffected).

I thought their performance was great tonight. But, until they prove it against legit teams I dont really buy much into these games… You can go all in off of a SUU win. You can read between lines… Im just not there yet. Especially since we have beat up on similar teams this year and have looked terrible against legit power 5 teams… #GoBlue

Yep. That was a lot more fun than losing, but we’ve shown that we can run it up against teams that are simply physically overmatched by us. But any team that is remotely able to match up with us physically, we’ve lost against. So I have hope, but still nothing close to belief.

Like, as I said during that game, NC is not particularly good, but because they weren’t physically overwhelmed by us…

@J11 see above - I worry that there’s a reason we look so good against teams that aren’t horrible teams but are good for their conference. SUU(?) may not be a terrible team, but they do fit the profile of being completely physically overmatched.

Some of ya’ll refuse to be happy. Haha, Michigan just won by 37 points against a team with legitimate tournament aspirations. Given the cluster we’ve seen to date, focus on the positives. There will be plenty of time to complain, but let’s wait till they lose to better teams before we do, eh?
