I’m open to amending my statement if you can come up with another worse one. Sometimes the pieces don’t fit, but it’s explicitly the coach’s job to foresee that and fit them together or find better fitting pieces, particularly with how flexible roster management is now in college basketball.
I think it’s also pretty easy to get it wrong here and there in a given year.
They have to go small. One of BJohns or Moussa needs to be largely cut out. More twill, bring in bufkin or Zeb
Hopefully lessons learned for recruiting. Hard to watch Minnesota continually driving into an open paint because they have shooters.
For this year at this point maybe you’ve got to try kicking Houstan up to the floor and putting Kobe out there to shoot. Just has to be more shooting on the floor
I’ll object to saying whether or not this is a horrific coaching job, but this team is a top 10 talented roster without a doubt.
Both so terrible, in different ways. T Will, full on chicken without a head - I swear, getting beat by Loewy, taking a terrible shot, then getting beat by Battle and fouling for an and one - just ridiculous. BJJ, just NOTHING. Providing nothing. He’s so exhausting.
I think that’s the spot where Juwan might be forced to make a change. Kobe, Barnes, Tschetter…something. Jones can give up more minutes to Collins, but both need to play so you still have to hope both get better.
I am not going to say anything bad about Juwan at this point, but this team would benefit from the Beilein fundamentals. Beilein might lose with this team too since they can’t shoot or create at all…but they wouldnt make so many flay out dumb plays.
Arkansas or Kentucky I’d say is worse thus far.
Portal needs are gonna be:
- Stretch 4
- Veteran guard proven to get buckets
- Starting center
Frustration rant incoming:
Is it possible that this “best in the country” incoming freshman class just benefitted from covid and not a true in person evaluation period and were just over rated high school players. I don’t see anything that jumps off of the page indicating that our McDonald All Americans are as sensational as they have been built up to be and certainly not lottery type players like that have been forecasted.
Of course there have been flashes of excitement and potential from Diabate n Caleb but last game BJJ and TWill had flashes of greatness to so I tend to go with the eye test and with that, it doesn’t seem to me to be a lot that will change from these first ten games through the rest of the season.
I think Juwan is a great coach and leader of men but I also think it needs to be stated that the beginning of his career he had JBs players, even Franz continuing to come to UM after JB moved on wasn’t a Juwan recruit. Not to say that he can’t get this group to the Tourney and this is obviously one of those stay as long as you want to coaching positions but the rotations, subs and play calls this year have been quite suspect.
Shaping up to be a truly gut check type of season not because of expectations, preseason rankings and hype etc but because we’ve seen over a decade of competent, competitive and well rounded basketball and this is such a departure from our norm.
It’s just nonsensical to try and force feed minutes to two hybrid fours that can’t shoot. He had TWill playing the three down the stretch and he gave up back to back baseline drives and missed an open corner three.
I don’t blame the staff for assembling the roster how they have, but I blame them for sticking with an insistent approach to play non-shooters (and non-Diabate players) at the 4 and sometimes the 3, at the expense of trying ANYTHING else.
Devastating loss. I can’t see how we make the tourney.
JB had some tough years when people thought he was done. But I cannot remember a Michigan team, going back to JB’s 2nd year, when our PG play was so ineffective.
It’s so frustrating at this point the insistence on playing power forwards at the 3
Looks like Musselman had a hissy fit tonight lol
Who on this team can shoot consistently?
I love Diabate and he is clearly one of our better players, but the two big thing is just so hard to make work against a lot of teams. If I thought there was any chance in heck of Johns being the confident shooter we saw against Nebraska then I would start him again and have Mousa be the sixth man. But you can’t trust Johns.
Juwan should have be having Chris Hunter scouting every possible transfer wing shooter for next year already. Jett should help and Houstan might come back…but the roster now and next year is really limiting without shooters or creators.
As we’ve been pleading for like 5-6 games now. You NEED to try and play Kobe and go small ball.
Most of y’all are crazy going on about offense and scoring. This game was lost on defensive side of the court. Gotta stop them once in a while.
Will point out that with Covid there are a lot of older experienced teams like Minnesota and this might just be a bad year to have a freshman reliant roster.
