Freshman impact

It’s so strange that in portal era we have virtually no expectation or even hope that new freshman will be in rotation. We’ve seen guys ranked as average players have major impacts over the years: Try Burke was outside top 100, Dickinson was in 50s, was Cason even in top 300?
We have three solid newbs and you could call Phat Phat as a 4th. Positionally playing 4 spots of need:

  1. PG—Phat C
  2. SG—McKinney B
  3. SF—Grady C+
  4. Goodman—PF C

I’m thinking two of these guys can have a solid yr off bench/possibly one start with likely expectations as graded above with C as average B1G player ie. in list of 144 players C = 72ish (out of 8 top rotational players per 18 teams).

I wonder if need as many new portal guys as we think? I hope these freshman survive deep on bench in this nil/portal era. I also hope 1-2 thrive and remind us freshman can sometimes have a big impact. Of all fan bases—we ought to know.

Don’t count on freshmen or depend on them to be saviors. Just hope that they can contribute in a meaningful way.

I can easily see two key contributors off the freshman bench, possibly three, and maybe even one starter out of this bunch. No saviors but Positive above average contributors.
