Franz Wagner to miss 4-6 weeks with wrist injury

I’m sure he just means that pretty much all Stauskas did his freshman year was catch and shoot and make 3s. He occasionally did more but that wasn’t his role with the guys he had around him. If Franz provides nothing else besides 3 point shooting, he’d be a huge benefit to this team. However, I think he could provide more playmaking than Stauskas did his freshman year. Whether he can match Stauskas’s shooting numbers is a tall task though.

I think that narrative underrates the playmaking that Stauskas did as a freshman.

I admit I might be misremembering him as a Freshman. Games like Florida in the tourney stand out where he scored a ton of points, but literally they were all catch and shoot 3s. I don’t remember him operating out of ball screens much, but I don’t know. Trey was so ball dominant and when it wasn’t him, I thought it was primarily Hardaway. By my avatar you can tell I’m a huge Stauskas fan so I definitely don’t mean to minimize his contribution haha

Yeah, Trey used 487 ball screens (Shots/pass outs) that year. Tim used 126. Nik used 90.

The key factor was that Nik was in the 97th percentile efficiency wise as a freshman.

Pretty much the ideal secondary creator performance with knock down shooting.

Never said it was limiting in terms of shooting. Obviously Nick was a great shooter even as a freshman, but that was about all Nick did his freshman year. Franz projects to be a more rounded player than freshman year Nick given all that we heard about Franz’s game in the Euro pro leagues

Remember the Not Just A Shooter meme started his freshman year every time Stauskas did anything besides shoot a 3, which was pretty often, the announcers would say he was NJAS. He obviously really came into his own the next year, but I think people are forgetting he showed those signs his freshman year.

I woudn’t expect Franz to do much more than show signs he could break into a bigger on ball role next year

I agree Nick showed “signs” of being more than just a shooter because he clearly had that ability, but the team didn’t need him to do much more than that.

But he also didn’t do much on defense, which if you believe D Walt, that should not be a problem for Franz.

I’ll admit, those numbers surprise me. Very cool.

Yeah wow I didn’t realize that Stauskas used that many ball screens as a freshman. I was always high on his ability to eventually do it (his film was one of my favorites from any recruit Michigan has had) so I wasn’t surprised by his sophomore year. I just didn’t remember it that much his freshman year. Good to see the numbers written down. I’d expect Franz to be a little better passer and better defensively than Stauskas was, but the shooting and efficiency numbers will be really tough to achieve.

QUESTION: Does anybody know if Franz practiced with his team on Friday, Saturday, or Sunday?

We know he wasn’t wearing a wrist splint at Friday’s game vs Houston Baptist and that he was high fiveing teammates as they were warming up before the game. It would be nice if Dylan or anybody else who can watch practice or speak with coaches or players would tell us if he practiced over the weekend, and if so how his practicing went.

I would think that if he did not practice or if practice did not go well, then we probably can’t expect him to play at Atlantis. I SURELY HOPE that he can play!

Bill, no one here, including Dylan, can watch practice

We can’t watch practice and Michigan isn’t meeting with the media in Ann Arbor before they leave for the Bahamas (which I believe was this morning).

Dylan, do you know if the team will be practicing today and/or tomorrow in Atlantis?

Side note to this: Love that Yogi is labeled as “Kevin”

What we can reasonably hope for from Franz is shooting a good percentage from 3pt range, being able to attack close outs to score at the basket, cutting into the occasional easy basket and solid defense where he uses his length to create some steals here and there.

I’ll never forget the dunk versus I believe west va.

Had to do a double take to ensure that Bajema wasnt Franz here but it does not look like Franz is practicing here

Is that actually true?
