It’s a recruiting-on-steroids discussion because you’re definitely getting one of them, but you’re only getting one of them. If Michigan was drafting 5th and the top-6 on the board were Dug, Jett, Tarris Reed, Emoni Bates, Terrance Shannon, and Gregg Glenn, I bet the only thing people would agree on is that they don’t want Glenn. Otherwise the discussion would be pretty similar to this one.
I know age matters
But there is a 6’5” two guard who topped the athleticism tests at the combine who was also a first team unanimous all American and shot 40%+ from three
And nobody seems to at least put him in this conversation.
Absolutely agree. Nobody can jump as high as Sharpe and he was a top-2 high school recruit who went to Kentucky, which has some extremely high level NBA comps. I understand after a year off his agent probably advised against doing scrimmages at the combine because he’s going to be rusty and the risk to hurting his draft stock is much higher than the benefit of jumping a couple places. Without high level competition as a data point though, there is no way of knowing if he’s SGA/Maxey/Herro or Charles Matthews/James Young/Isaiah Briscoe.
Because Wisconsin is a trash program and I can’t bring myself to root for a team I follow to take anyone from there.
Lol, different unanimous all American!
(I’m discussing Agbaji)
Like Dyson Daniels combined mediocre athleticism and a disappointing g league season, but he’s higher? IDK
That makes more sense. I didn’t think Johnny Davis shot that well or tested at the combine.
Agbaji has the dreaded “senior” next to his name, so that automatically drops him 5-10 spots. Teams that are already good and picking lower end up getting these guys and stay good. Teams at the top who are hoping to be good in 3-4 years take the younger guys like Daniels hoping his development track matches the organization’s timeline and they get an extra 3 years out of him. Some good team will take Agbaji and be credited when he’s a contributor.
You already know it: Ron Harper Jr.
How about Kofi
For second round, I really like productive upperclassmen that nobody wants because they are “already 22” (Ayo, Josh Hart, Jalen Brunson, etc)
Players in this rubric…Roddy, Koloko, potentially Christian Braun
Fair. 32% on 276 attempts from three in two years in college. I’m skeptical.
Sharpe , Ivey, or Mathurin is my pick if Chet, Jabari, banchero are gone.
I’m high on Mathurin like others are here.
Or spice it up and trade down for two picks and take Ty Ty and someone else. After the the top guys this could be a crafty move as we level off but imo have nice talent deep into the teens and 20’s.
Ty Ty is going to be like maxey imo where he’s being overlooked slightly and has a high floor with decent upside. Both just know how to play and compete.
I think trading down really should be in consideration. I think the later picks in this draft are full of talent.
Dollar for dollar, I think I’d rather have him than Ayton. He’s probably going to cost about 40% of what Deandre will be chasing.
Chet is going to be a great sidekick imo but he needs an alpha attacking guard to pair with to unlock his ceiling.
I actually don’t love the magic for him , Okc is a great spot for him though.
For the Magics roster I don’t love this draft period but Banchero or Smith profiles better for their team. They love guys like Chet though so I could see them taking him.
I just feel like Isaac , Franz, Chuma give them what Chet does even if they do it in a different way.
Length, athleticism, passing, defense, heady play in general , some 3 ball. None are primary scorers/ off the dribble creators though. Isaac and Franz can do it but neither is a I need a bucket down 1 go and get it baller. Can they? Sure , but they profile as very good number 2-3 options that make teammates better and effect winning but not the games on the line superstar.
I forgot about Aj griffin somehow. That actually is a real nice fit for Detroit too. I might like him more than Ivey.
I forgot foster was there too. Did he look like crap or something? I don’t see him being talked about period but I liked his game in high school a lot. I don’t see him being mentioned period in mock drafts.
This g league ignite crop is being overlooked slightly imo. Foster, hardy, beauchamp are all nice players
With them clearly choosing Carter over Bamba, and apparently still banking on Isaac (and having Okeke), I’m not sure where Paolo or Smith are supposed to play.
Their guard situation right now is Anthony, Suggs, Fultz, Ross, Hampton, Gary Harris….
I’m not sure we know if there is a single starter in that group.
In short - I don’t see how an organizational commitment to Isaac and a pick of Paolo/SMith is compatible (I think they probably shouldn’t committed to Isaac)z
Just noodling around but agree that a Orlando’s interest in the consensus top 3 should be low? Might Orlando trade down to the Piston’s spot for a guard? It would fit their roster better and Detroit can pick Smith or Chet. I don’t know what the cost would be beyond the 5. 2028 1st?
Pistons can’t really move any 1st rounders because they currently owe Houston a 1st rounder and they may not convey that pick for some time. This is probably another reason it’s important for the Pistons to try and start winning soon. If they keep kicking the rebuild can down the road they may end up owing the Rockets a top 3-5 pick one day. Get Sharpe, attack free agency and get this thing going.
This is what I’m seeing for the Pistons/Houston trade with the 1st round pick: draft pick (first round pick protected top 16 in 2021-22, top 18 in 2023-24, top 13 in 2025, top 11 in 2026, top 9 in 2027, else 2027 second round pick) (?-?)
Sure they can be bad until 2027 until they give up 2 2nds but that means the rebuild did not work and Cade is likely gone at the end of his contract(or at least force a S&T). I am in agreement that they should get this things going this off-season but I disagree with the Sharpe pick.
