Detroit Pistons & NBA Talk (Part 1)

I haven’t checked, but I’m just assuming I won this thing for the fifth year in a row?

Depending on how many votes Cade gets for ROY, you either beat me or we tied. However, we’re in the lower-middle of the pack. Lou might win another one.

The kids are NOT alright

Anyone saying cut Cade should get time in prison

If Buzelis picks someone other than Michigan, I agree

I really like Scottie Barnes, and Mobley is pretty cool, but even if he hadn’t landed with the Pistons I would have loved following Cade. He was such an imperious player at Oklahoma State where he really shined as a point guard.

It’s a wild comparison but he’s like a basketball version of Sergio Busquets. A long limbed octopus like creature who sees the court/pitch like few others and can defend effectively and intelligently. So yeah, some of those answers were a bit poopy.

Thought it’d be fun to build a UMHoops draft board for the Pistons. Vote for your top pick and then in a day or so I’ll add a poll for the #2 pick, adding a name and taking off the one that’s off the board.

  • Paolo Banchero
  • Jabari Smith
  • Chet Holmgren
  • Jaden Ivey
  • Keegan Murray
  • Shaedon Sharpe
  • A.J. Griffin

UMHOOPS PISTONS DRAFT BOARD

  1. Jabari Smith
  2. ???

The UMHOOPS community has spoken and a plurality thinks Jabari Smith is (and it was close) the top prospect. If Jabari Smith is off the board, which of the following would you want the Pistons to take?

  • Chet Holmgren
  • Paolo Banchero
  • Jaden Ivey
  • Keegan Murray
  • Shaedon Sharpe
  • A.J. Griffin
  • Bennedict Mathurin

I voted for Chet.

Give me Sharpe or Ivey and call it a day

I’m lower on Chet mainly bc of his frame. He’s not a great athlete as well but he’s fluid though.

He’s the only one of the top 3 that I think has top 25 player upside. I don’t think Jabari has much upside besides one time all-star

Yeah, I think Jabari is an extremely safe pick but there is the possibility he tops out at, basically, Jerami Grant.

Smith is just so well suited to be a second banana to a ball dominant franchise player. And he is a bankable two-way player who has the ideal physical attributes for the position he’ll play. He’s not an awkward fit for multiple positions, just a perfect fit for one. The match of physical abilities and position is why I prefer him to Chet.

The thing about ivy that’s just so weird and gives me pause is that he’s such a wild playground player and that’s odd given that his mom is a coach. If your mama is a coach, and if your mama loves you, does she really let you grow up shooting like that? Or did she try her hardest and it still came to be this way? That’s a puzzle piece I’d like to have in my hand to get comfortable with him.

I’m sorry and I may be way off, but I just don’t see it in Ivey. I think he will be a decent NBA player. But franchise type? I don’t think his jumper in its current form will work in the league. The league is full of highly athletic players who also play defense. As I have said before I see Oladipo part two.

Oladipo would be a great outcome minus his injury history.

I’d be happy to have an oladipo

There’s lots of insane athletes in the NBA, sure, but how many of them can actually use that athleticism on offense the way Ivey does?

Yes we’ve seen him use it in several flashes but in the end he still was not a difference maker for his team when it came down to it in the tournament. I think he will be a good pro. just not top 5 pro.

So if the Pistons brought back Bagley which is expected. Stewart is already starting, Olynyk has 2 years left. I get the feeling they are really looking Ivey Sharpe depending on where they land. Obviously top 4 then you have Banchero JBS and Chet but I could see other moves being made to make room for them to get PT.
