I still question whether Ivey can beat guys one on one and make shots consistently. Coming off curls and stuff I think he’s fine but I’m still on Team Shaedon.
Can he beat guys one on one? Didn’t he do that consistently and not just in straight line drives? He’s going to have even more space to operate with in the NBA.
My question is more about breaking people down and if he can finish at the rim. That’s less on him but giving more experienced and athletic guys guarding him. I like him but he will still need to develop a better jumper.
I’m surprised how much support Chet is getting (great poll btw). What position do people see him playing? I assume not center. Can he guard a big wing? Clearly not if it is Leonard but he’s the best in the league. Let’s call that wing ____ Morris, for example. The LA one. Marcus?
He says he categorizes himself as a 3 but he’s not that. I think he’s at worst a defensive game changer and DPOY candidate for many years.
Please no on sharpe
Why? I mean can we atleast have the combine first.
So you see Chet at the 4, right? I feel like his shot blocking is great attribute at the 5, but he’s too slender. I suppose maybe he could be a Giannis-like deep safety from a spot of the four, but Giannis is a real high bar and I don’t see many other 4s like that. I guess JJJr is nearly Giannis on D and also apparently not a center. Porzingis (sp?) is another, but MUCH worse on D, obviously. So ok, I suppose that player is out there.
Just see so many teams playing smaller and smaller at the 4 and 5. I can’t decide if I think that’s good or bad for Chet. I suppose it gives him two spots to play.
On the Pistons, Chet is a 4 and fits really nicely in the front court with Isaiah Stewart. Stewart has no issue being the bruising guy throwing his body around while Chet is the finesse guy coming for blocks and rebounds where he can even initiate the fast break. He’s a pick and pop threat and a lob threat which would be ideal working ball screens with Cade. He’s a very skilled player with a high basketball IQ. I think he’d be a great fit in Detroit.
“Fit” wise I think he does pair well with Stewart.
I’d rather Chet just bulk up and be a 5, but teams do go small especially in the playoffs. I’d rather gamble on Chet overcoming his physical issues than Banchero.
I’m intrigued by Sharpe, but it’s definitely a pure guess as to what he’ll become. Calipari has recruited some really good NBA guards/wings over the last 7 drafts (Booker, Murray, Herro, Fox, SGA, Maxey) and some not great guys who have stuck in the league (Diallo, Monk, Quickley). As a fan, you don’t want to miss out on the next Booker / SGA because pairing somebody like that with Cade would elevate Detroit quickly. But as a GM can you really draft a guy that high who you haven’t seen play 5-on-5 in over a year against anything more than AAU level competition? It’s a huge gamble.
It’s a good contract situation too, right? Take half a year to get Chet’s legs under him, then trade Grant at the deadline for a late first (if your lucky).
I think if Detroit is in a position to draft Chet and plan to sign Marvin Bagley, they’d try to trade Grant before the draft. You go into the season starting Bagley and bringing along Chet (or Jabari? maybe even Paolo or Murray if they are high on them?) slower. That gives them the luxury of not forcing a rookie into the starting lineup while also potentially rehabbing Bagley’s image and making him a much more valuable asset. If the rookie blows up and is a bonafide starter, an improved Bagley on a team friendly deal becomes a valuable trade piece if they don’t want to hang onto him.
I’m very interested to see what Portland would be willing to offer Detroit in a trade. Portland’s worst case is picking 10th (0.1% chance) and most likely 7 or 8. I’d love it as a Detroit fan, but just can’t see them trading a top-10 pick for Grant. Future picks do nothing for Detroit and Portland has no young players they are looking to move, so I’m not sure what they’d offer.
The rumors have been a top 10 pick for Grant. I agree that it would seem unlikely but you never know.
Pick up Chet/Jabari/Paolo/Murray with Detroit’s pick and then maybe Mathurin (or Sharpe!!!) with the Portland pick… ooh boy I’d like that.
Cade-Mathurin-Bey-Chet-Stewart + Killian-Diallo-Livers-Bagley-Olynyk on the bench AND $30M in cap space to spend? Yes please.
Ivey has functional athleticism that many athletic players does not have. That’s what makes him a viable top 4 pick to me.
Giannis is a freak and an outlier. He’s 250 while Chet is just above 200 plus Chet isn’t a great athlete as well.
