Real talk, the Mavs should’ve told all the teams that Luka is available for a trade. They could’ve easily gotten multiple 1sts out of him.
I’ve got a lot of hours in Elden Ring. Hit me with it.
Splash into the ice bath?
Yeah it’s understandable if they were just done with him but to not hold an auction is the truly indefensible thing
Virtually every team in the NBA would’ve tried to put a trade package together if they knew the Mavs were insane enough to trade a superstar just entering his prime. Mavs could have had the wildest bidding war in history. Top 3-5 players just don’t go on the trade block. It’s unheard of. Everyone would have tried to get in on it
I think Dallas might be better for this year if AD plays more than Luka would’ve. Certainly better defensively.
AD, Gafford, and Lively give you the best rim-protection of any team in the league. This means that Kyrie (who’s an average defender at best) and the Ghost of Klay Thompson can gamble more. PJ Washington slides to SF. Kyrie becomes the clear “guy” down the stretch.
However, it doesn’t look like a long-term win in the least. The '29 pick probably will be in the 20’s, because the Lakers will certainly spend to find someone to pair with Luka. (Watch it be Wemby:rofl:).
And AD is fragile.
Marc Stein reported that none of the players saw this coming, including LeBron.
I have to think that if Cuban were still in charge of the Mavs, it wouldn’t have.
If there wasn’t an auction that is fireable. Have to hope that these top guys can actually clamp down on rumors when the stakes are highest. (Absurd trades) also every GM should call anytime anyone is upset and price check. Like every team has to have asked about Jimmy Butler right?
imagine you’re Jalen Hood-Schifino:
- you don’t get to play with LeBron anymore
- you don’t get to play with AD anymore
- your team just traded for Luka but you don’t get to play with him either
- you have to move from LA to Utah
- and btw you’re probably contractually prevented from even crossing the threshold of a ski resort, one of the main reasons other people move to Utah
Might some Austin Reeves for Vucevic deal be in the works?
I think if Dallas prized the player coming back, understanding that Luka is only guaranteed for 1.5 years, is there a better player than Davis?
Ant is locked up for years, Luka is better but Minny won’t chance that, etc
I just think if you have a Luka you don’t trade them.
Part this for LA is maybe getting out of the Clutch business?
THE ELDEN RING JOKE:
Since Colin joked that the only way this isn’t good for the Lakers is if Luka’s legs fall off
“Well, Luka’s body composition does resemble that of an Albunauric.”
(Tedious explanation: an enemy type in the game are these pale white guys who are shaped like a big toe who, depending on the variety, do or do not have legs)
Some of the comments in here justifying why the Mavs traded Luka miss the main point in why this trade was so awful: you should be able to get WAY more in return for one of the three or four best players in the world.
AD is a great player in his own right, but AD, Christie and one first four years from now just doesn’t cut it. Inexcusable that they didn’t shop him around.
The suddenness of it makes me wonder if there are more factors at play that we don’t know about beyond how the front office felt about the player.
Nico Harrison confirmed la was the only team they talked to, lol
That’s so unserious. If I were a Mavs fan I’d be despondent.
I will say the last time I remember everyones reaction being so wtf what is the team trading the superstar doing were the cousins to pelicans and porzingis to Mavs deals and both those ended up a disaster for the team acquiring the star.
Well if Luka misses 60% of the remaining games in his career this will obviously look good for the Mavs
Seems pretty clear that’s exactly what the Mav’s think will happen and obviously they know Luka better than any team by far
It’s that or the relationship is bad and they don’t think he would re-sign (or would, and then demand a trade)
