Detroit Pistons & NBA Talk

Ah an EPM merchant. Enjoy your rankings list that has Payton Pritchard higher than Cade, this would surely make you a top tier NBA GM.

EPM is so heavily-influenced by teammates that it kinda makes my argument for me lol. Cade is doing this with one of the worse supporting casts in the league. There’s a reason there are so many Cleveland and Boston players high up on their list.

Also think EPM does a bad job of calculating individual defensive impact.

But yeah, we simply just disagree. You also probably have not watched much Pistons basketball if you think there are that many players that have more impact than Cade.

there’s a reason, which I stated, for why I didn’t include Payton Pritchard. If you looked at their site, you’d see they make the same argument

models err and humans don’t pretty straightforward imo

But you’re basing your argument off of a statistic that you admit is flawed?

How good is your data set if you choose to take certain players off the list?

I think EPM is good data but if thats the one thing you look at to judge a players impact then the argument is over, not worth having lol

I’m not sure literally any statistical quantifier has argued their model removes the need for human judgement completely. It’s very obvious “it’s not the one thing I look at” given I didn’t just post their ranked list. What EPM says is that Pritchard is playing awesome in his role (he is). It doesn’t say he’s “better” than Cade. As I said, I think Cade could perform very well in Payton Pritchard’s role. This is why I’ve trimmed the list to on-ball primary creators. It has players on good teams higher than players on bad teams because making teams awesome is harder than making teams ok.

We’re going off the rails here, though.

How many players in the NBA could you put on the Pistons in Cade’s role and have similar success? Be the number 1 option for a team that is making an enormous improvement from last season. He is 4th in the league in touches per game. EVERYTHING runs through Cade and relies on Cade. He’s been the primary defender on guys like Brunson and Jaylen Brown. He has gotten better every year despite being in what has been truly the worst situation in the entire NBA up until this past year.

All this just tells me you really don’t watch the Pistons. You didn’t see what they looked like last year and don’t see what they are doing this year.

That’s the list I posted.

The Pistons are not my primary watch (mostly OKC and Orlando until the Wagners died), but I’ve definitely seen them play both years a few times.

I’m bowing out now, though, because it’s getting a tad ad hominem-y and I don’t really care to do it.

Please tell me you don’t actually believe you can put Desmond Bane on the Pistons and they’d still be 19-18

But yeah this is pointless, enjoy the rest of your day.

Not this year.

Man, if Joe had said yes to whatever Kiki was offering to move up a spot to take Darko…

I will not try to pretend I’m the smartest basketball mind. However I was listening to Game Theory today and Sam Vecenie was talking about how if Cade keeps this up he’s in All-NBA conversations so I feel my claims are justified regardless of how biased they are:joy::joy:

25 points in the second half for my goat Cade. Sadly it wasn’t quite enough. They almost completed an 18 point comeback in the last 5 minutes.

Malik had a chance to tie it but it was tough

They were way too slow defensively and the bench (aside from Holland) didn’t bring much scoring punch. Cade almost carried us across the finish line but the 18-point deficit was too large to overcome.

What happened to Golden State’s bench?

Podziemski, Moody, Kuminga, Payton

Are they all hurt

Wiggins out too I guess

Yikes

Yep, and TIMMAY was a late scratch for us.

Offense, was a struggle without Ivey and Hardaway (and Ausar limited.) When Cade went to the bench they had no one to run things through.

Defense was awful. Gave up so many dunks because they would overplay Curry and the bigs would just slip into an open lane.

If Curry didn’t have a horrible shooting game it wouldn’t have been close.

They really do not have the depth to withstand it. That’s partly why Ivey’s injury was huge in a negative way

Who’s the backup PG now, Sasser?

I’d bet that 3 pp100 delta between Cade playing and sitting will start to grow, lol
