The shots are there. But Bickerstaff’s plan so far has been for him to go immediately into a dribble handoff. He’s clearly chosen the offensive rebound part over the spacing part.
So Seth Partnow (NBA analyst, used to lead data analysis for the Bucks) had an AMA on Blue Sky
I asked him (on behalf of all of you) what he thought of the Pistons’ young core should they play their way to a low lottery pick this year (and thus likely don’t get a Cooper Flagg)
Here is his response
(Follow me on Bluesky I guess?)
I’ve never heard of Bluesky. How is it?
It’s a lot like what Twitter used to be before it was bought out. Still isn’t quite there with posting say a clip from a basketball game. But it doesn’t have the clunkiness of X where you have to work around the app to get the feed you want.
You can post clips now! Mo Dakhil joined this week and had done three NBA night threads of all clips!
I think Bobi Klintman will be a factor as a rotational player in the future. 6’9” who can shoot and defend will have a place for the Pistons. Too bad he’s been hurt
Just because this was discussed here, I think this is THE take on the subject
(This is, I think, Dylan’s point when he says “shoot more threes” isn’t strategy, it’s the outcome of a strategy to generate them, and there are multiple ways)
I mean, those differences are probably 10% of possessions difference between teams right? Almost every NBA possession is a quick action immediately leading into a 4-out high ball screen.
It’s interesting to say Cade’s turnover issues have him ready to give up on him as an All-NBA type. The current league leaders in turnovers:
Harden - 5.3
Cade - 4.8
LaMelo - 4.6
Trae - 4.5
Ja - 4.3
Jokic - 4.1
Fox - 4.1
Wemby - 3.7
That list is a lot of All-NBA players. And Luka last season averaged 4.0. Cades turnovers are bad, but if he can get it down to the 4.0 range I don’t see why that would prevent him from being an All-NBA if the other aspects of his game keep improving.
Yeah, I think the thing holding Cade back is he needs to be nailing more off the bounce 3s
All of the non-Wembayana guys here are or have been super efficient scorers so you can live with the turnovers a little more
Cade is below average efficiency
Yes, but Cade has also been on the worst team in the NBA the last two years. His last two coaches both got fired and the GM was fired for constructing a roster that didn’t at all fit to Cade’s strengths. I think he’ll always be a high turnover guy, and could end up always being inefficient on offense and never be an All-NBA type. I just think it’s a little early to project that.
I think his point is - no, that is not accurate
Stew is having a tough time covering Sengun.
Now, he’s walled up on him a couple of times.
The Pistons can’t get a defensive rebound either. How fun!
The last 2 minutes have been bonkers. Pistons lose by 2
Both Michigan and the Pistons lose by 2 today. That was 4 1/2 straight hours of rough watching for me.
Not having Duren cost us today.
Rebounding is actually the one thing they do well generally speaking
