Detroit Pistons & NBA Talk

Why did I not bet more on the NETS

Another win for the Pistons. Another triple-double for Cade

Almost blew it again. If they can get their turnovers down they can make the play-in game.

Congrats guys

Yep, the East is bad. They should at least be able to be in contention for a play-in spot

A fun stat with a Detroit specific tangent

Among players who have seen 30+ shot attempts at the rim this year, Victor Wembayana leads the league in fg% allowed at 36% (league wide fg% is 64% at the rim)

Isaiah Stewart is 2nd at 40% allowed, followed by Chet, Jarrett Allen, and Brook Lopez

Obviously this isn’t the only way to effectively protect the rim (Brook Lopez has led the league among center in rim attempt deterrence (ie, just not allowing shots around the basket) for years)

Conversely, opponents are shooting 88% on KAT, his only peers on the list are mostly guards and small forwards until you get to…Vuc (go Bulls!) at 76% (for context, 6’1ā€ Jalen Brunson hasn’t seen sufficient attempts to make this list but last year allowed 75%)

The pistons are much better with Stewart than with Duren

Duren’s defense has improved this season but Stew gets after it more and that monster wingspan really helps. I think they’re both excelling in their roles. I just wish that Duren didn’t get an ankle injury every season.

Didn’t realize Mike Brey was on the Atlanta Hawks staff now.

It’s really interesting to me that Stewart averaged 4 3PT/game the last two seasons and has attempted four total this year (0.4/game).

Well he’s playing a different position on offense. I’d be interested in them trying five out a little when he plays, but Stewart doesn’t really do the other things you’d want from a five out big (dribble some, pass well)

Regardless, JB is clearly not interested in trying five out

Yeah, it’s just interesting to me because Stewart isn’t a lob threat and isn’t a good post player. So when he’s out there not shooting 3s either, I’m not sure what he’s providing on offense. He’s not a great shooter either, but the extra spacing for Ivey would be a positive? I’m not a coach though so…

Is Stew that bad in the post in the NBA? He’s never been elite with the post moves but he was still decent if you fed him in the post or did lob it into him.

Either way your guys years of suffering are over.

Harris, Hardaway, Reed, and Beasley were good moves to buy time for Thompson, Duren, And Holland to develop.

You needed shooting and veteran leadership and now you have that. You all will be competitive for the next couple years while the young guys develop and it will reverse the culture of losing.

Should be a good franchise moving forward imo. You do need to add some young shooters though to replace said vets in the next couple drafts,

Over his career he’s a bit below average at the rim, and about average 3-10 feet out. So, ā€œpassableā€ may be the word, if this level of defense is real

Perhaps more importantly than the (somewhat below average) accuracy is that he’s generally really struggled to get attempts down low

Feels like he should be a good energy big for 15-25 a night in the NBA. Is he running the floor hard?

He’s always struck me as a guy you’d want on your team if you’re a contender off the bench.

Needs to impact the game by playing d and doing the little annoying/ scrappy things along with the dirty work. Needs to become a high IQ player too.

He’s okay. He doesn’t have as many moves as Duren does but he can bang and create space.

You’re describing his role, yes

That’s what he is being asked to do

On offense, Stew’s talents are that he shoots slightly above league average from 3, providing spacing from the Center position. And he’s a very good offensive rebounder. Problem is making use of both of those at the same time.

But when he plays center he doesn’t shoot threes
