I think Stew has some tools I like a bit better than Gordon (shooting as you say, he’s a better rebounder) but Gordon is a darn good player than Stew still needs to develop to reach.
I like him. I’d hope they get a solid return for him if they dealt him
Cade has S-tier awareness on court along with elite passing vision and can run the offense at a much higher level than Ivey. He shot very efficiently in college, at high volume. His shot will get better
I cannot believe I have to explain Cade Cunningham to you, mgl. I’ll concede the awfulness of Bagley and Wiseman, some of the GM’s disappointing decisions, but this is a bridge too far. Despite whatever athletic ‘deficiencies’ he may have, he compensates them with skill and size. Cade is still the best prospect from his class, and the gulf between him and Franz, Scottie, Giddey as a talent is not insignificant.
Also, don’t understand the reasoning behind drafting Hendricks and Grady, as if we have some great team that is one 3 and D piece away from competing. Still possible Cade is nothing but a fringe all star, Ivey is a one way player, and Duren is just an average center. We need more potential stars.
I think it’s because people think Cade and Jaden are soon to be potential stars and need to build around them. Duren should ascend quickly into a top 5-10 C in the league. Drafting for non-roster fit probably hurts the overall trajectory of the franchise with this roster.
yeah, at best, I think cam johnson is 3rd best player on a good team. dunno what he will command as FA, but sure hope Det is not so desperate they will give him a max.
It is so dangerous … former coach and a team / GM that was talking about ‘competing’ and the need for veteran leadership. This is the time in the cycle when albatross contracts get signed.
Don’t love the injury history but don’t mind spending for a player at that level. Don’t mind seeing Jerami Grant back here if we can get him at of reasonable price. I think you have to stop tanking at this point and it’s time to spend on a young vet. I still like the idea of Grant Williams and could see him coming at a much lower cost. I don’t know if he’s ready to take the leap into being a 30-minute per game starter, though
The guy everyone keeps getting mad at me for comparing him to had a 6 year peak of 21 points, 6 boards, 5.5 assists on true shooting over 60%, quality defense, 4 all-stars, and a ring!!!
I think Cade is good! You know it’s homer-land where I’m getting trashed for being unrealisting because I’m comparing a 20 year old to a future HOF’er, assuming he’s not just absolutely done from this point forward
It’s the size, the passing, the shooting, and that I think ultimately they have a better on-ball option because I don’t think Cade has the burst to just beat guys and create his own advantages without a screen (I think Ivey does). Also, like, his measurements are a clone of Middleton. I think Cade and Ivey in the back court are very complimentary of each other, and I think both are capable on-ball players (like Middleton is!). But I think Ivey’s greater need to have the ball (Cade is better off it than he is) and ceiling on it will win out.
I don’t see Roy - I don’t think Cade has that burst.
So if you think Cade is destined to be a poor shooter while at the same time thinking he’s better off ball then the only conclusion here is that you think Khris Middleton is the 99th percentile ceiling for Cade.
The problem is most of us think Cade is not far from Khris’ current level since he’s already a better passer but isn’t nearly as efficient as a shooter.
Cade shot 40% at OSU. I think he can be a good shooter but I think it’s hampered by the shin injury.
Also to @mgl’s point, Cade has shown that he can get to his spot without relying on the athleticism. We’ll see how his burst now that he’s finally 100% healthy. If he’s averaging 25/7/7 with this shin injury, imagine what he can do with his legs under him.
I think both Cade and Jaden compliment each other that they can play of one another and still be a perimeter threat off the ball.
