I have a hard time believing you thought a guy that you didn’t think was worthy of 3 years/$60m was worth more than a two time all star that was traded for a young player with potential and two first rounders.
My big board for the Pistons are:
- Wemby
- Scoot
- Miller
- Whitmore
- Hendricks
Hey, they just clinched another top 5 pick. I’m not going to complain about that.
I find it impossible to gauge the Pistons. They played like 1000 different lineups this season. I could see them taking a leap next year just from everyone having defined roles and consistency. Or they could do that and we find out the roster just doesn’t have a lot of talent. Foolish to be certain either way.
Their season ended the moment Cade elected to do the season ending surgery. As of now, they have some young talent to be considered as a building block of the future in Cade, Jaden and Duren. A right break along the way, they could be a low seed team then they make a leap after next season.
Grant was traded for cap space primarily. Duren trade used that cap space, but we basically got nothing for Grant
This is wrong. The 2025 first round pick acquired from Portland went to New York in the duren trade.
The beauty here is that time will tell
Agree here. A friend recently pointed out the bottoming out is easy, this is a big off-season and obviously a ton hinges on the lottery/draft. But we will know a whole lot more of who weaver is as a GM by this time next year.
Weaver has turned the roster from :
Drummond, Reggie Jackson, husk of Blake Griffin, and filler bordering on luxury tax threshold
Into:
Cade, Ivey, Duren, top-5 pick this year, Stewart, Wiseman, Bagley, Livers, Burks, Bojan, plus serious cap flexibility until they have to try to sign Cade’s extension.
He’s taken some big L’s along the way, but if that’s a bottom-5 GM in the league I’d be shocked.
I think I’d say that we don’t know if any of those guys are an all star
He needs a few to be
I like Ivey’s promise a ton
I disagree with your Pistons roster take that there is no potential all-star. To me, that’s Cade, Jaden and Duren. They’re all young and flashed that they can be a top 25 players in the league. I think it’s being hidden because of zero spacing from the rest of the roster. The players who can give them spacing are Bogan, Burk, Livers and that’s it.
I didn’t say there is no potential all star…
And your zero spacing comment goes back to my Weaver gripe
We need one to be a legit franchise player/alpha scorer. There are gonna be all-star games played tho.
Troy immediately turned the pick for Jerami into Jalen Duren, Burks, and Noel. I doubt he would’ve gotten more before the trade deadline.
I’d put getting Livers in the 2nd round, trading Svi for Hami, and Kelly-O/Saben for Bojan in the Good category.
Andre was already gone. But one-legged Blake was a tough one.
An expiring Grant at that.
Am I the only one not utterly wowed by Scoot’s athleticism? He’s nice but, like, I don’t see Derrick Rose or Westbrook. I dunno, maybe I’m just blind, but Whitmore seems similarly athletic.
I will probably have a different opinion of him in a month.
I mean
He didn’t have to be expiring
They could have traded him earlier, with more time on a value contract instead of sitting a good player 30+ games to maintain the tank
Go back in this thread and you’ll find 18 months of me asking why he was still on the team
What’s a better prospect/player you’re looking to receive for Jerami Grant than Diren?
Like, I can almost swear you were also one of those completely down on Grant’s quality and now you think we could have gotten a better return for him?
