The honest answer here is that I have spent roughly 12 months shrieking obnoxiously an constantly that Bagley is a giant hunk of poo.
I think Ivey is capable of shooting 36-38 for the season from 3 pt which is plenty for Iveyās athleticism. Itās not a push shot anymore so thereās more optimisim that he can shoot 36-38 on a consistent basis plus his midrange is becoming a weapon for Jaden. He loves that corner middy where he can gain separation for it.
I think Wembyās skill is unique there at the 4. He can handle, drive, step back and do iso. Heās very good at all of it that I think heās an oversized wing with rim protection. At the very present, heās too skinny to be banging with the 5.
Other than Embiid there arenāt too many bangers anymore though. Nic Claxton is a willow and is a great defensive option against most matchups.
Thereās Jokic, Ayton, Duren, AD, Brook Lopez and to name a few. Theyāre much heavier and stronger than Wemby. Wemby just doesnāt have the strength and body to deal with the bigs even though thereās no traditional post players. Thereās a reason why AD hated playing at center.
Wemby would be much better off guarding the 4. I think Beef Stew makes sense playing next to him. Let Beef bang with the bigs but Wemby can function as a big on offense.
lol I know, I was also on that bandwagon. I think I have a post from September that was like āwell if Weaver is doing a sneaky tank job, this could workā
I just think youāre reversing his value. The value of the 7ā5" guy who can dribble and shoot isnāt to have him play a center offensively. This is all very hypothetical, though.
I acknowledge that early in his career he will play some 4, I just donāt think itās his destination, and I definitely wouldnāt ask him to in order to accomodate Jalen Duren who is almost the opposite prototype of guy Iād want next to him.
I think heās a 4 and his game is a 4 who can play as a āsmall ballā 5.
If heās a Pistons, heāll be a 4 regardless.
I think at least early you probably want another big with Wemby. At least part of the time for sure.
Iāll just say that if the Pistons donāt investigate the 7ā5" Durant at the 5 to preserve PT for Duren, Wiseman, and Marvin Bagley, I will go pack Troy Weaverās office into a moving box myself
Not that it is entirely relevant, but where does Wemby play for his team right now? I understand the value of taking that unicorn skill set and attacking 5sā¦but Iām not sure why it still wouldnāt be an asset attacking 4s or if thereās some limitation for him guarding 4s. Seems like both are good options if heās as generational as we all think. Youāre going to want a more natural 4 and natural 5 on your roster anyway so you can play matchups to maximize Wemby with different lineups.
Defensively, I think you want him guarding away from the action. He covers so much ground you can have Duren, Stewart or whoever anchoring around the basket and Wemby swooping in to swat shots into the stands.
Guys - do Scoot.
Assume lineup is Scoot Ivey Cade ??? Duren
Is ??? Bojan or Stewart?
To me Bojan is obviously better choice but if it isnāt Stewart, what on earth are they going to do with all those Bigs?
Or do you let Scoot lead bench mob? That seems unlikely ā¦
I think you close with this but not necessarily start with it.
If they get the 2 pick, Iām seeing what I can trade Bojan for, and then my answer is Stewart.
Even if individually none of them pop to all-NBA level, the Scoot-Ivey-Cade combo would have the potential to be a complete nightmare to guard.
Duren can definitely get there since heās so young, but I am still not sold that heās a starting center (not saying he wonāt be, Iām saying the jury is out). Ivey and Cade are starters, Iām sure of that.
not a bad path. Iād rather start B with size off bench, but from a timeline perspective this idea makes a lot of sense.
If the Pistons got Wemby, I think there is a very high probability that they would use him like the Cavs use Mobley and play Wemby next to Duren. Weaver really likes two-big lineups.
Yeah, I think people would have to be prepared for lots of load management his rookie year. Heāll probably sit out a number of games and, at least, probably wonāt play many back to back games.
I think Cade, Scoot, Jaden would all play together and have the coach stagger minutes between the three of them to get two ball handlers at all time. Itās going to be interesting to see the roster construction because someone is going to get pushed out of the roster via trade.
I also think that Weaver would take Miller over Scoot at #2. Miller is a cleaner roster fit and has upside where he can do more things than shooting.
Outside of top 3, I donāt know who I would rank for the Pistons big board. Iām leaning towards Cam Whitmore since heās a good athlete with dynamic scoring knack but he offers not much else outside of it. He is only 18 years old so thereās room for development. Iāve heard Jarace Walker but heās kind of redundant to Beef Stew stylistically though Walker is a better athlete. One prospect that intrigues me is Taylor Hendricks. As I said several times, I want nothing to do with the Thompson Twins.
