Detroit Pistons & NBA Talk

Would we call Wembanyama a 7’5" small forward? He seems to have a perimeter game and a handle.

But, super-stretch 4 is much more likely.

I still think that PG is a spot you want offensive competence from first second and third and defense doesn’t come until 4th or 5th, because an incompetent offensive PG can derail literally any lineup. The only defense first PGs with long careers I can think of in the modern era is…Pat Beverly, and I think calling a PG may be an abuse of the term.

Guys like Nkitilina and Kris Dunn were really good defenders and basically can’t play anywhere.

So…your dream scenario, basically?

Yes, I think playing bad players less will help!

So I’ve largely agreed with the “give up on Killian” group for the last year plus, but then I went to a game in person for the first time in years (when they played the Cavs) and Killian was pretty awesome. Then I looked at his numbers the last month and it is really making me reconsider and im curious what your stance on it is @mgl

More games with 2+ threes made than zero in that span. Averaging 7 assists a game ever since they thrust him into primary ball handler role with Cade out, 13 points to go with it - still not what you want from a lead guard, but way way way better than I ever thought he was capable of after last year.

I’m not sure what I’d do - Cade as a superstar PG would be most ideal but I’m not sure I buy it as likely anymore. Ivey has been Ivey and if he’s not gonna have the ball there’s a lot of negatives there. All the best players except Wemby in this class are guards. That likely leaves Killian out but I think I’d at least try and keep him to be the bench guard for a few more years.

I think it’s also worth noting that Hayes is two years younger than Jaelin Llewellyn is right now

Here is my take on Killian.

First, I have no reason to “dislike” him, I don’t dislike him.

He is a good passer, he an efficient passer - he has put up very good assist total regularly, and does so with marginal TO ratios relative to those totals. That’s good.

His shooting is better lately. IT IS STILL REALLY BAD. His true shooting is more than 100 points below league average. He is still a near historically inefficient scorer. He’s just better than he was (difficult to be worse!)

Defense, I said my price about PG defense above, and I think that applies to what I’m going to say next more than his personal assets or shortcomings as a defender:

The Pistons have routinely been worse at defense when he is on the floor than when he sits. When he starts, the bench does better. When he comes off the bench, the starters do better.

I’ve seen him do good things, but it is hard to argue that his personal defensive ability have much of an impact on team defense (there is no evidence)

I’ve seen some of the comps here - Ricky Rubio with like…40% the passing brilliance (less a knock on Killian than a testament to how brilliant a passer Rubio is)? TJ McConnell but considerably less efficient offensively?

He IS young. He’s a pretty good athlete, and has a good frame. He’s a good passer. It could work, but I think the Pistons need to answer some long term questions first about Cade (as I mentioned above) and then Ivey. And the answers to those could shape whether their view of Hayes is even relevant.

Mo Wagner won’t have many fans left after that.

Mo 100% in the wrong here, lol

No clue why Diallo got ejected. Magic players left the bench and nothing

I’m dying at Isaiah Livers watching that unfold.

Eh, Mo took a shot in the run of play and should be ejected for it, rightfully so. Hitting someone in the back of the head is bush league anywhere.

First time Hayes has had an accurate shot in years though.

That isn’t it. If Killian does nothing hes looked at as a punk. Killian will get many pats on the back after that.

Mo is a troll, but Hayes took the bait

Throwing a player into the bench isnt a troll move.

I think we can all agree it was a cheap shot but he didn’t “throw a player into the bench”

Lord help me if I ever feel the need to pat someone on the back for a sucker punch to the back of the head. Weak stuff.

Zero issue with Hayes doing something. Tons of issues hitting someone in the back of the head with him unaware.

Should Killian have waited for Mo to turn around???

I mean… yeah? Isn’t what Killian did the worst possible response? Killian is gonna get a longer suspension for sure
