So many ways to respond other than a sucker punch, sorry lol

The response should be in line with the instigation, at the very least. Like, probably don’t punch someone in the base of the spine. Call me crazy, but I don’t think this warranted that.

I didn’t think Hami deserved to be booted. Yes, for Wagner’s hip/shoulder-check. That was similar to what Horry did to Nash back in the '07 playoffs. Maybe not as heavy a hit but totally unnecessary.

Yes, for Killian’s punch to the back of Wagner’s head.

A single tech seems more fitting for Hami’s push.

Killian may miss a game or two for the punch, even though it wasn’t much of one. Hit a defenseless guy from behind, you’re going to miss some time.
I’d expect Bamba, and 3-4 other Magic players to miss time for leaving the bench.
I don’t think Wagner will miss any additional time.

I do wonder if he’d been looking for an opportunity. Earlier in the game, Hami caught Moe’s head on the follow-through of a blocked shot. The block came after Bey (I think) fouled Moe. Moe and Hami had some words.

As for the game, it was nice to see the Pistons win one, and we got a near-perfect shooting night from Burks. He airballed a 3 at the end of the game. If he’d made it, the 35 points would’ve been a new career-high. I’m glad he went for it.

The meme online appears to be that no one knew Hayes could use his right hand.

So Hayes should not have done anything if Mo never turns around? Should Hayes have challenged him to a fight? Jokic checked Morris from behind and got 1 game. Hayes shouldn’t have to see if Wagner wants to fight because judging by what Wagner did he didn’t want to fight.

I think punching a guy in the back of the head under the assumption he will attack you further than the hip check is probably not something you’ll get many people to co-sign.

Mo’s play was dirty! Killian shouldn’t have hit him!

Yeah and Moe looked like he got knocked out from the hit to the back of the head. Seems more than just a little tap and justifiably deserves a handful of games for it.

I don’t think he got knocked out. He was staggering a bit then was walking on his own. If he was in that bad of shape a team doctor should be there.

So Killian should have done nothing i take it. Getting shoved down into the bench with no protection doesn’t mean Killian should be a pacifist.

It looked like Moe slumped into Stew’s arms a bit, after Hami’s shove to the back. I don’t know if it was acting or if he got a little minor whiplash, but he was already affected before the punch/forearm.

If you go to the 1:44 mark, you can see that.

It also looks to me like Hayes embellishes the contact a bit (making a face right after the hit). No question it was an ejectable play by Moe, but not as bad as it looked live.

I think Mo giving him the soccer shoulder bump was uncalled for and may earn him a game just because it was so unnecessary, but it sure didn’t look like enough to send Killian flying into the bench - maybe just caught him when he was already a little out of control from running down the court.

But Killian could have “retaliated” or “defended himself” by giving Mo a two handed shove - the classic sports “fight” move that lets you stand your ground without it escalating into a fight or suspensions. Instead he threw at Mo’s head from behind with an intent to injure - he’s going to get a couple games and he probably deserves them.

The degree to which a few of the people on the Piston’s bench are protecting Wagner from the ensuing fracas suggests they at least believed something to be wrong.

There are about 17 other things to do in that situation to retaliate besides sucker punch a guy in the back of the head. I’m not sure what’s difficult to understand about that. Certain things are acceptable in that situation and certain things aren’t. Shouldn’t really be debatable where sucker punches fall on that list.

What Killian did was wrong but why would Mo push him?? He lets the ball go oob for a turnover or picks it up it’s over and back and we aren’t talking about this. The fact he was right by the ball and figured to shove Hayes tells me it was premeditated.

Mo did a dirty frustration foul and deserved some retaliation (like a hard shove). But what Killian did is illegal in UFC… So like yeah… way too escalatory

My assumption is that he saw he was getting beaten to the ball (he was jogging, Hayes at a dead sprint) and decided to foul rather than concede a layup

I’m not clear how you could “pre-meditate” this situation.

he wasn’t going to concede a lay up the ball was to close to being OOB compared to where Hayes was. Like I said Wagner had a choice and made the wrong one just as Hayes did. As long as Wagner just touched the ball it would have prevented what happened. Wagner wanted to lay a hit on Hayes for some reason.

Hayes should be further punished for his action.

Great night. Michigan wins. Brad Underwood loses. Pistons beat the Warriors at the buzzer.
