Boehly is part of the consortium, he owns a small percentage. He is not the “Dodgers owner.” That’s Mark Walter
I can’t find the Khaldoon thing either
In April 2025, TWG Global announced a strategic alliance with Mubadala Capital, a subsidiary of Abu Dhabi sovereign wealth fund Mubadala Investment Company. Mubadala coordinated a $10 billion investment in TWG, and TWG concurrently acquired a 5% stake in Mubadala Capital for $2.5 billion.[24] TWG concurrently asserted that its current enterprise value was “over $40 billion”.[25]
Yeah – I think I saw 20%. Either way, there are a ton of people who know how to play the game involved here.
ok so we all agree these guys will likely improve the lakers then?
And that CFG will get the first NBA Europe license!
I don’t think I was meaning to imply that they wouldn’t help. I just was impressed with how many people were involved to names that I associate with interesting behaviors in football.
Pretty clear what game they are playing.
And I’ll buy an argument that it is the only way to play the game too, but there are still guys that play it differently in the US .
the NBA has been trying to re-legislate ownership rules to let sovereign wealth funds and M&A firms in directly (I’m very curious in a terrified way about what an M&A firm would do to a team given their business model, but that’s another issue) so I think we’ll see more and more.
Very few individuals can afford these teams anymore, especially given the leverage restrictions the leagues have
I’m aware! I still think there is a fundamental difference between a consortium of rich guys (the basic model now - there are few (if any now? I guess Ballmer?) individual owners) and the Qatari government or a debt & dump firm
Not a conspiracy guy, but the conspiracies around the Luka thing are going to last a LONG time.
I’ve been told the only reason why the Luka deal happened is the NBA told them they’ll give them the #1 pick for the rights to draft Flagg! lol
Oh don’t worry, Nico will actually draft…
drumroll
TRICKY TRAY JACKSON
Defense wins championships!!
But you can’t be too fat!
No it is definitely the point. What causes orgs to be good long term is management.
My point is you can own two different franchises, and one is good and the other is bad. No guarantee that LAL will be fine under his watch.
Wait, the Raptors offered RJ Barrett, Jakob Poeltl and 9 for KD and the Suns said no thanks?!?!
There’s rumor that the offer package from SAS is 14, Devin Vassell and Harrison Barnes. It sounds like SAS is the likeliest destination for KD.
Ishibia wants a big package, but the issue is KD is 37 and has 1 year left in his contract. Not a lot of value even though KD is an elite player. The Suns can choose not to trade KD, but they risk letting him walk for nothing after next season.
I think as long as the Suns ask is a draft pick and active players who will help them make the playoffs, they’re drawing dead here
Heard lots about the the Timberwolves - Randle, Dante, and a pick
I sort of think Durant’s single year could be seen as a positive? If you’re someone like the Timberwolves, you can see if he pushes you over the conference finals hump, and if he doesn’t, you’re happy with him walking. If he does, and he walks…well you got farther than you would have!
Hali is playing tonight.
Seemed obvious but the question will be how well is he able to play
