Just my opinion but that’s probably selling Paolo short, particularly with his trajectory.
It’s also very Indiana coded of just being really good at a ton of positions when you’re in a market that has no shot of pulling in a superstar.
They’ll have to get smart with their late second rounders to keep adding cost controlled players who can help. Not that they knew it at the time but they could come to regret taking a projection flyer like Jett with one of their last remaining non-late second round picks for the near future.
Just not sure what more Orlando has to lose from this. They’re gonna be good for a while as is. East is open right now.
Yeah, “the east is bad” is the most obvious thing missing from my vibes based take
I guess we saw a team with three secondary creators and zero primary creators get stuck in the mud all year, I’m skeptical a fourth secondary creator is the answer
I can never gauge these things but it is two Top-5 picks and two other first round picks essentially. And if the Grizzlies don’t think they’ll be good in the near future, since they just gave up Bane, they may not want to commit to extending JJJ.
I am not a cap expert but I’m confused how this trade reduces what JJJ can be given in an extension? Are we just saying “practically” in order to stay below the tax or apron or something? His extension is dictated by the CBA, he can get the (non-super) max
Deal would be to give all the cap space to JJJ by renegotiating his contract (taking it from 23.5 to 28mil next year), raising the amount they can give him in an extension.
Not sure if I like the trade for the Magic. I get their rationale, but that’s a steep price for Bane. They need a PG more than a secondary creator, but they’re probably determined to make Paulo and Franz the primary guys a thing.
