Pistons comeback is complete

I love Ausar, he has it all. His upside is limitless if he can fix that awful looking shot.

Feels like Ausar would be best in the Wagner role right now instead of straight up high PnR

You might be right I just think he’s got way more passing upside immediately. Feels like a 5+ APG guy early if we use him right.

And given his lack of a shot right now it’s clunky next to Cade/Ivey

I mean, summer league comp is not dissimilar from an NCAA all-star game

So it’s certainly better than about anything other than the NBA in terms of talent level

Azulis Tubelis is getting like 13 minutes

I’m watching today’s game on delay but Ausar has owned Grady D!ck in the first 4 minutes. He’s blocked him once and stolen the ball twice. And he had an amazing reverse dunk on an alley-oop from Sasser.

This may be a hot take, but I’m higher on Ausar than Ivey. The defense, passing and rebounding is going to translate immediately. His general feel for the game is very advanced.

I like that take but I’d like to pour some scalding hot wasabe on top of your hot take and state that:

locks all the doors in my house and turns off all the lights

I’m higher on Ausar than Cade too

For some reason, I’m not worried about Ausar’s shot. Just feels like he’ll get there eventually. The defense pops. And the rebounding. Shines in transition. High motor.

In half court, couple times he got caught in the lane and turned the ball over, but for the most part he’s patient and make good reads in the middle of the floor.

That Ivey, Cade, Ausar 1-2-3 could be really good.

What I like about Ausar is that he can impact a game without the ball. I think competitive teams need guys like that who are going to defend, hustle, rebound, and find ways to get to the rim with the ball one way or another. Cade and Ivey need to keep developing to be the primary scoring/facilitating guys on the team and Ausar can do some dirty work to clean up messes. That should help his growth curve because he’s not dependent on his shooting to impact the game.

That being said, let’s pump the brakes a bit on him being their best player after a couple of summer league games. I still think a wing who can’t shoot is going to have issues in the NBA.

I think Ausar hits the basketball nerd pleasure buttons with the defense, hit aheads, general unselfishness, head for the game

Ivey and Cade had levels of production that it will take him time to get to I think, but the good sign is that they aren’t really mutually exclusive, Ausar’s best at things that won’t detract a lick from the other two (I think he can cover for and amplify Ivey in a few ways)

What I mean is Ivey/Ausar on the break is going to be capital G Great

And he’ll be able to insure that Ivey only has to guard the worst guy on the floor

Again, 16 stocks in 3 games. I think his defense (especially), but his rebounding and passing and transition game have already set a pretty decent floor, which was a concern.

What Ausar showed was dead on with the scouting report. What I’m interested to see how he’ll do in the regular season with his ability to play in the half court setting and shooting. It’s way too early to declare anything from the summer league. The Thompson Twins aren’t great in the half court setting.

At worst, he’s a very good role player. Ceiling is very dependent on his shooting/finishing which is the biggest question about Ausar.

Is there anything specific he’s shown in a half court setting that you don’t like from summer league? Or just writing some of that off because it’s just summer league? Just curious there cuz I think he’s been very good in halfcourt settings when the ball finds him.

His handle is too sloppy to handle much on-ball usage in the halfcourt IMO. That’s why I think the Franz role is better for him where he work off a dribble hand-off and only need to make one or two dribbles with a head of steam before making a drive, pass, shoot decision.

In transition, his handle is plenty good enough to grab and go full court though.

is there some sound with this video that i can’t hear? or is it just about ausar’s defense

Handles isn’t great and his shooting limitation gets magnified. There’s a reason why he’ll be a backup wing player to start the season.

Yeah, he definitely had moments where he just lost the ball going too fast. But other times his handles look so tight and precise in cramped spaces. Catching a rebound and immediately going behind the back and pushing in transition. Or getting cut off and doubled on a drive, going behind his back before firing a quick hockey assist pass.
