I find the lists of the most similar teams to Loyola and Wisconsin very amusing. They’re exactly the same, but in a different order, two Michigan’s and a Wisconsin. Best of all, Loyola’s top comparison is to the Michigan team that beat them in the Final four. I think you’d be happy with that if you were a fan of the Ramblers.
Man what happened to Jay Williams lol? He used to be pretty involved in college basketball (Gameday, etc)
Once he got the morning show gig he’s been focused on that. Which means 75% content on the NFL regardless of what time of year it is and 24.9% focus on the NBA, and .1% on all other sports.
out of curiosity, why is this not the case for the Zaga guys? I haven’t looked into the numbers, and I’m not hating, I’ve just wondered why they can have 4 guys on the positional award lists and us not have the same consideration. Is it just because of name recognition?
Pace. Gonzaga plays at the 4th fastest pace in the country. And has plenty of cupcakes as well. So their stats are inflated in a way Michigan’s are not. Ayayi is the only nomination of theirs that doesn’t make sense though. The others are deserving.
I find the whole talk of Tiers with the top three silly. We are right where we want to be. No way of knowing who’s better and it doesn’t matter anyway. Stay in the top four and we’re good. All three are elite teams.
Gonzaga guys have better stats because they play 14 games against sub 100 teams and move fast. So they get big stats combined with prestige of playing for a nationally-known program. A guy putting up similar numbers at Buffalo wouldn’t get the award recognition. So, going to play at Gonzaga basically optimizes your chances of getting individual awards.
I think the counting stats come from them winning so many games so easily.
Timme and Kispert are the holdovers from when we beat them right? I keep reading Zag fans say they only have trouble defending length and I immediately think of Franz, and Isaiah, and then I remember Hunter is legit 7’1, heck even Brandon Johns has shown that he can attack the basket.
Not that I think it would have made that big a difference, but I wonder if the cut down to 5 was made prior to the game against Iowa. Just curious if Hunter’s performance in that game would have swayed any votes. Bottom line, there’s a lot of good big men in the country with impressive stats - I just think Hunter is among the top 5 centers in the country, and it would have been nice for him to be recognized as so.
…not according to Seth Greenberg the other night. He referenced him as 6’11 three separate times in a 2-minute preview of the game against Iowa.
Timme was a freshman last year (so only his 5th game or whatever). They played through Petrusev and Killie last year, especially at that point in the season.
Kispert was still a focal point and was absolutely shut down in the game vs UM.
Thanks, kturnup. I appreciate your knowledgeable posts. You are a cornerstone of this community.
am I wrong to think of UM as one of the lengthier teams in CBB? Other than at the guard spots, we got some long bois.
Definitely not wrong. Michigan’s length at the 3-4-5 is a huge part of what makes this defense so effective at defending the paint.
And get longer with Chaundee at the 2.
Tennessee
This is not a high level basketball game lol
Michigan’s potential problem would come when they have to face athletic long guards who can shoot over Eli and Mike. Baylor comes into mind.
This is Auburn with no Cooper or Powell either.
