Thanks for the correction.
Yeah that was the year Beilein, Stauskas and LeVert violated the laws of basketball physics. Amazing how they managed to be so good whilst being so bad at so much of what you have to be good at.

GRIII at the 4 for that game against Julius Randle…not ideal defensively. That UK team was criminally underseeded, but I think UM played extremely poorly overall that game and still had a chance (captain obvious).
The only solace from that day was seeing MSU lose to UConn (can’t remember if it was right before or after our game).
Morgan was on the bench with one foul with one minute to go in the first half – IIRC, again – and Beilein put him in. Of course he picked up the second foul, and ran into foul trouble in the second half.
Speaking of beating Kentucky at their best, if you’ve never seen Michigan’s 1993 Final Four win against the Wildcats, now is a good time to: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AUG7qmfzQqk. Maybe the Timeout (and other things years later) erased the memory of what may have been Chris Webber’s finest moment as a Wolverine. 27 points (and no dunks!), 13 rebounds and 2 blocks. Kentucky was favored too, after steamrolling their way to New Orleans.
Right before.
I was so hoping McGary was going to be healthy enough to play that day.
That was so good. I remember being nervous about Travis Ford going off and hitting a million 3’s, and came away so proud of how Michigan limited his looks and simply didn’t allow him to get going. Ford was an absolute gunner (shot 53% from 3 that season), played all 45 minutes, and only attempted 10 shots from the field. Incredible defensive performance.
Still remember Fisher in the post-game: “Kentucky is a terrific terrific team and it was a terrific terrific game…”
Michigan was pretty fortunate to have Mashburn foul out.
UCF and Cinci are tied at 35 at halftime. DDJ has 4 points, 3 TOs, and 2 AST. He’s 5/27 from 3 on the season.
Off the top of my head, Ford and Mashburn were the only two I recalled from that Kentucky team. Looking at the box score, though, most of the other names are familiar as well. I was surprised to see Voskuil only played 3 minutes.
That is atrocious!
I’m coming around to the idea that I loved the idea of DeJulius whereas the reality was something else.
I think that’s a good way to put it. He was loved because he was recruited as the heir apparent at PG, was a local kid that famously scored lots of point against Mr. BB Foster Loyer, he looks cool and athletic when he plays. But theres not tons of actual positive play there. He’s alright, but was just never going to reach the heights of our previous PGs
Ball St. and Toledo each picked up MAC wins today as well. Both played bottom level MAC teams so it would have been bad to see a loss, but good to see them carry their weight.
UCF getting a win would also be a nice development today.
Yeah. I was envisioning a more aggressive version of Derrick Walton. And then I saw a functional floater a few times as a freshman and got excited about that.
Funny - feels like a week ago people were wishing DDJ was still on the team and that he would be better than Mike Smith.
Well, a week ago he wasn’t 5-27 from 3!
(I dunno what he was, but…)
Different people though, to be fair.
Man watching Arkansas, I really wish we landed Moses Moody. I know they really haven’t played anyone, but he has looked fantastic in the 3 games I have seen.
