Schools can use the process to drag NCAA cases out a long time. That’s what has been happening here. Just because no ruling has been issued doesn’t mean LSU, Kansas and a few others are in the clear.
Arizona, Sean Miller accused of multiple Level I NCAA violations: source
including the dreaded Lack of Institutional Control and aggravating factors
Arizona Board of Trustees = Clueless + Shameless.
Wake me up when something happens, until they start giving permanent show causes to coaches, ~5 scholarship a year ding for several years and around 5 year post season bans, it 100% pays to cheat.
This can only mean one thing:
The hammer is gonna fall on San Diego State
It’s official: We can add Gutless to Clueless and Shameless.
They are staring down the NCAA and daring them to take action.
Arizona has asked to have their case decided by the IARP, the new independent panel. Kansas and some other schools are too. It will be a faster process with no appeals. Whether it catches on will probably depend on these initial cases.
At this point it seems that the NCAA has already done what they are going to do, level a lot of serious charges. Arizona has little to gain or lose by what they do now. Unless Miller gets caught cheating again.
Palm firmly to face. It is at least encouraging that the NCAA is using the information that’s more or less public, and not just ignoring it. I don’t care if kids get money, but if we have rules I at least want them enforced uniformly.
Opinion: With no transparency, schools like Arizona, LSU are allowed to game NCAA’s system
I was at the NCAA Tournament game in Charlotte NC many years ago when UM annihilated Tennessee. Bruce Pearl was in the midst of being fired for cheating and after the game he was walking around the outside of the Arena escorted by 2 police officers. As I walked past him, he was so distraught (even though his firing wasn’t official yet) that he could barely control his emotions. It was fairly surreal as he wasn’t even accompanied by any Assistant Coaches and it wasn’t that long after the game. When he was hired at Auburn, my b-ball buddies wondered how long it would be before he went down in flames again. I no longer blame the coaches. If you want to talk about a lack of institutional control, start with the Trustees. The Kansas, Arizona, LSU and Auburn Trustees and university Presidents have repeatedly made conscious decisions to look the other way and have indirectly (and sometimes Directly) supported cheating. If elected and appointed university fiduciaries don’t care enough to do the right thing, does it even matter anymore? (ANSWER: Of course it does.)
My wish is that the NCAA just say that this year is the cutoff and going forward they punish harshly moving forward. I feel it would alleviate the burden of the past and help everyone moving forward. But I’ve been wishing that for years soooo…
Maybe they should just fold up the NCAA and call it a day. The lack of transparency and their overall impact is quite embarrassing. As more schools eliminate sports programs there will be new unaffiliated organizations to fill the administrative void. I eventually see NCAAB moving under the direction of the NBA in some shape or form.
