College Basketball 2022-23 Discussion

Lol, that moniker is so stupid. It’s James Harden and, um, Byron Scott?

Mills is quite the downgrade from Kendric Davis. Pierre is really interesting tho. Wish we had gotten involved but with Duke and Memphis supposedly looking I doubt we have had a chance

If you think about it with his dad still with the Lakers it would make sense.

oh yeah, I mean, he literally lives in LA. he wouldn’t even have to move his stuff. I can see why he’d go there!

Was there ever a doubt?

Some of the NBA draft peoples were convinced if he came out that he wouldn’t get out of the first round, so perhaps he reached out for feedback at minimum.

I am very interested in balance sheet of the collective. What are its liabilities? Are there any liabilities besides equity? What are its assets other than cash?

Finally, does the collective expect to return money to its investors?

It’s all cash in and immediately out. The one I’m involved in is a non profit so no returns. No assets it’s just one fund. Donors write a check to. It seems they over promise by a bit and hustle to find the money, which why the fund acts like a checking account.

The liabilities are close to non existent. It’s a bare bones operation. The board is made up of people doing pro bono work like lawyers.

Some have hired professional fundraisers. They get about 200k plus a small cut of what they raise. Know a guy that made 750k fundraising in the south.

Wow that’s great stuff. Thanks.

The professionalism of this is going to be really positive for the players, I hope.

Your guy who made 500k is commissions must have raised $5 (10 percent commission) or $10MM (5 percent)! That’s actually really informative to me about what NIL is paying. Of course we don’t know if those commitments to the NIL fund are paid in right away or multiyear.

The one I know of is small potatoes and doesn’t include the middle man network that’s always been in place . Appearance fees are like 2-5k for a player just to show up for 30 mins at an event

@avs22 do you have any sense of what it costs to add a high major star vs a typical starter vs a rotation guy? are there are big differences in approach between schools/conferences that are spending about the same?

feel like I have a lot of Q’s but I’m not really sure where to start bc I don’t really get how it works so if this is obvious or dumb forgive me
