Good. Beating UNC early every season has become a really delightful tradition

Future opponent San Diego State lost a tough one at BYU. Considering the road environment I thought SDSU outplayed BYU for the majority of the game. SDSU just couldnā€™t buy a 3 or free throw and then Barcello hit a couple tough shots down the stretch to get some separation for BYU.

Louisville lost at home (in OT) to a decent Furman squad

Helps Michigan that UNC won for Non con but was pulling for Brown to pull off the upset. #1 for Brown is a kid named Daniel Friday from Detroit UD Jesuit whom I know personally. Him and his father are amazing people. He played an incredible game for Brown. Had a career high 21 points to go with 4 rebounds and 5 assists. Excited to follow Brown this year. Seems like Friday has made a significant leap in his game. Coming out of UDJ he had tons of Ivy League and high academic looks and even some serious interest from Xavier and Cincinatti. Both schools wouldā€™ve taken him if heā€™d have waited longer into the summer of his senior year.

I knew Friday seemed familiar. Was he on the team that Emoni beat for the state championship?

Brick city so far in UCLA/Nova

Ucla plays their tail off. That and tough shot making guards is a tough combo. Like Rutgers except their players are actually good

I believe UD lost to Emoni when he was a freshman. Came down to a buzzer beater I think.

Probably the best player U of Dā€™s had other Cassius. Glad to hear heā€™s starting to put it together.

So far this game has kind of confirmed what I thought about both teams. Both are very good, but neither are elite like theyā€™re currently ranked.

UCLA has some real talent, but Mick Cronin still canā€™t coach an offense (last year was his first ever top 30 offense on Torvik which was propped up by the unsustainable tourney run). A guy like Juzang isnā€™t as bad as he was this first half, but heā€™s also not as good as he was in the tournament. But he, and the rest of that roster, feel they are that good. Which means to me theyā€™ll have some on fire games where they canā€™t miss, but a lot more clunkers that look and feel super ugly.

Nova to me has looked much better than UCLA when Moore has been in. The problem is since they only go 6 deep, the second one core player goes out they fall apart. That depth will kill them against equal level or better teams.

My big takeaway from these late games though is buy stock in Oregon. They brought in a ton of talent in the portal and are killing a solid SMU team. I know it seems like he was never a serious option looking back, but watching them makes me really wish we got Jacob Young too. Iā€™m very happy with Devanteā€™, but I was a Young stan all offseason. He had a solid first game (14 points on 5-8 shooting, 2-5 from 3, 3 REB, 2 AST, 1 STL) and in the first half tonight he had 12 points on 4-5 shooting, 1-1 from deep, 1 REB and 2 AST. I really think he would have fit in well with this roster and Juwan, and think heā€™ll be good all year for Oregon.

Fun game both teams trading big shots after not hitting anything for 10 minutes
