Cleveland Cavaliers hire John Beilein

Zero expectations from the fanbase in Minnesota too. They’d be elated to get Beilein and buy in to the notion that he needs a few years to put his system in place. I think he would be incredibly successful there.

I can see Beilein successful in Minnesota, but he probably feel more comfortable staying closer to the east coast.

Wow…that would be quite a story to have JB step into Wright’s shoes at Nova. Without actually knowing the specifics of Nova’s current roster structure, I’m guessing there’s not a better situation for JB to step into the win right away and avoid having to take a couple years to build something in his image.

Jay Wright really respects Beilein too.

I had no idea that Jay Wright had an affinity for smoldering dumpster fires.

the latest is that he is not leaving nova, or it would be very difficult to ply him away, but the rumor was all over in last 24hrs.

Knicks fans are confused. They thought they needed a guy with a nice suit. What Dolan’s really looking for is an empty suit.

There is a 0 percent chance Jay Wright goes to the Knicks. None.

We would’ve said the same thing about Beilein going to the Cavs too. :joy:

What part of “the ceiling is definitely higher” did I misread?

Tidbit from Jeff Goodman, he said Michigan staff members had their names out there for other assistant jobs last year because they felt beilein was going potentially retire after this season.

If Dolan plays Under That Hood for Wright, i dont know how he doesnt immediately leave Villanova for the Knicks

That could have been health related too after his open heart surgery. Probably just assistants keeping their options open.

The part where ceiling is a whole lot more than final four appearances. Literally a thread of about 100 messages

Wow. The most interesting part: A resolution is expected by Wednesday, and sources with knowledge of the situation say Beilein is expected to walk away from the remainder of his contract, which was originally a four-year deal — with a team option for a fifth — worth about $4 to 4.5 million per year.

Cleveland got a good deal

Wow is right. If I’m JB I’m not walking away until I get paid.

You just can’t let Gilbert get away scot free, but not surprised given that it’s Beilein we are talking about.

So JB will walk away from $14-16 million guaranteed instead of forcing the Cavs to fire him and pay him because he won’t actually be coaching. Mark Dantonio, on the other hand, stayed on just long enough to collect his $4.3 million “retention” bonus and then left almost immediately thereafter even though he, wait for it, won’t be coaching. Scruples–some have them, and some do not.

I wonder if him walking away is more indicative of him just realizing this isn’t working for him rather than the Cavs wanting to fire him.
