The thing not mentioned here is hiring staff. Juwan has done a great job so far. He’ll probably have to replace a few assistants soon. But, with his connections you’d have to think he’ll be able to find good replacements.
I think it does automatically mean our ceiling is higher if we have more talent. Nothing says we are guaranteed to reach that ceiling, that is why it is a ceiling but it is definitely higher. To reach it we have to do the stuff you mentioned.
I don’t see Beilein being a fit at Indiana. I am, however, scared to death that either Minnesota or Northwestern makes a change in the offseason and he ends up with one of those programs.
Minnesota is an intriguing fit.
It’s really becoming a hot bed for high school talent as well. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Pitino go if he doesn’t make the tournament this year.
Anything but the B1G. Or Notre Dame.
I love Beilein but no to naming the court. That’s for national champions.
I like the Notre Dame idea a lot if he wants back in. Respects the geography factor.
Michigan had a ton of talent though over the years. The 2013 team had 6 NBA players and 5 of them were first round picks. And the one that wasn’t was the highest ranked of them all. Don’t confuse talent with rankings.
Another issue is how long you can keep the talent.
For example, Josh Christopher is a five star recruit ranked around #10; Nik Stauskas was a four star recruit ranked in the 70-85 range. In my view, it’s highly unlikely Josh Christopher will play two years of college basketball. It’s probably just as unlikely that in his freshman year, Christopher will be as good as Nik Stauskas was as a sophomore. And that comes back to having some really good upperclassmen - or at least two and done sophomores - around.
Just keep him out of the conference. Hell I’d even root for him at Notre Dame.
If Beilein does end up with a college job, I would love for it to be a B1G job. It would make the conference better than it already is, and would make the B1G season even more fun to watch than it is today. If he ends up elsewhere, I know I’d say that I’d watch his games and follow his new program, but I also know I wouldn’t do it. I am B1G through and through.
I disagree
Right, all I’m saying is the bluebloods recruit the best players and those players consistently keep them elite. The more talent you have the higher your ceiling is, that is an absolute fact. Whether you reach that ceiling is a whole different discussion in itself. I think Howard will have success but if people would rather have Beilein that is very reasonable for many of the reasons you have stated.
People have been talking about naming the court after Beilein lately. I don’t get it. Is this a serious suggestion? He dumped us. Why would we name our court after him?
I literally made note of the 12-13 team plus a couple others. What I’m saying is with Howard I think we can consistently have teams with high end talent. Which other teams other than the 3 I mentioned had a ton of talent? I think Howard has the POTENTIAL to have elite teams from a talent standpoint more than 1 out of every 4 years.
I love JB. He is almost like a hero to me. He is the reason I even bothered to start watching Michigan basketball again despite living within walking distance to Crisler… I truly wish him the best. I am even considering purchasing one of those “we got subs and it was crazy” shirts. There is no way I would support naming the court after him though. It makes zero sense to me.
That’s a bit dramatic. He didn’t leave for another college job. His plan was for the Cavs job to be his last. Now it may have been a clearly bad idea from our end. But that’s what was going though his head
Is naming the court some big thing? Why is everyone all worked up about this? Beilein also seems like the last person who would ever want a court named after him. Why would Michigan do this?
I can’t believe OSU got rid of Thad
I think also there should be the Ellerbee Loading Dock.
