Those make more sense to me than the B1G
Beilein finally becoming an assistant coach would be funny. But assistants usually do a ton of recruiting so I donāt knowā¦
given his age, he may retire or semi-retire
he could get a TV gig, or a NCAA gig, or run a scouting service
Think heāll hire MattD?
Beilein wouldnāt be a typical assistant coach.
He might be pretty good at attracting talent and could certainly help with evaluations. Let someone else be the the relentless recruiter. Heād be valuable in the right situation, where he could teach players and mentor a young coach.
As great a basketball mind as Beilein is, listening to him try to do color commentary would probably be awkward. Getting the excellent thoughts in his head to come coherently out of his mouth has always been a challenge for him.
I do agree with this, but maybe combine Beilein and Tim Miles (who I think is really good) and you could have a nice combo.
I thought he might become an assistant to Patrick before he stepped down at Niagara. Then again, maybe John assisting Pat might be more possible than ever, if Pat is at the point where he is ready to take on a coaching job again.
Lost in the shuffle and noted in the article as one of the reasons for his struggles is the situation with Patrick and his unexpected departure from Niagara. Whether that is cover for all that is going on or is legit, I donāt know.
But if it is playing a role, maybe he steps aside for a year or more to help with that piece at home/recharge his batteries and then see what the landscape is like.
As noted above by @Tom48160 before I could hit enter!
Beilein is not going to be a college assistant.
Kathleen will have a big say in this. They have roots in Michigan now, including a home on Walloon Lake. Canāt see him straying far from Michigan. At his age, heās not a long term hire for anyone, and I doubt that he wants to get back into the recruiting grind to rebuild a program and a culture. My bet is on him retiring from coaching.
Wake forest is another job being tossed around and that one seems like a really good fit on both sides too.
Brendan and I threw out some random schools on todayās podā¦
I could actually see a D2 job being appealing. Recruits stick around for 4 years and he can really focus on Xs and Os and player development. Seems like there may be a few less complexities and he can focus on the things that he enjoys most
The man just let his ego cost him a job at a top 10 program that was going to build him a statue when he retired. No way he would ever go D2
A D2 job? Assistant job? Iām not sure Beilein would be the best fit for some blue blood jobs, but why are you guys throwing out ideas like that? This is a coach who has been to multiple Final Fours, heās not taking a D2 job.
JB is going back to JV basketball!
I canāt believe that was seriously in dispute.
Beilein canāt take an assistant job. What would announcers be able to say about him if their main platitude got taken away?
