Cleveland Cavaliers hire John Beilein

If Beilein wants to return to college. A crazy thought I have, NW and beilein would be really good fits for one another. Beilein loves challenges, keeps him in the midwest, seems like a guy that would hate the politics and fish bowl environment at iu, and he truly enjoys coaching at high academic schools.

Bye Shaka, hello Beilein?

Thatā€™s actually not a bad guess.

Beilein, Yaklich, Bacari Alexander and Billy Donlon lead Northwestern to a National Runner-Up in 2023 and then he leaves to become the head coach of the Sacramento Kings

As long as itā€™s not a B1G school

Dang I set the o/U at 1.5 seasons and the under will hit easily!

Gotta hope Archie Miller gets Indiana into the tourney. I donā€™t want to see them can him and go after Beilein. Thatā€™s one place I could see him land, if he is parting ways with the Cavs. He recruited Indiana and Ohio a bit better than Michigan.

For as smart as Beilein is, I just never understood why he took that job. There was zero chance of success.

How it all ended was just completely baffling from sending a text to the Athletic Director and the Athletic Director never even responding.

How did he not see this?

It was ultimately just kind of a pride thing. Or a curiosity thing. Not sure which one was better or worse. The Cavs are an awful franchise and it had a very low chance of working out. Iā€™m guessing he was honestly a little ignorant to just how poorly run it is.

He wanted a chance to coach the best players in the world. I hate it didnā€™t work out cause I feel like I know him personally

There was way too much evidence that the Cavs without Lebron are the biggest joke of an organization.

The owner is a complete moron as well.

All this was visible.

Hate that a man this smart made a decision this awful.

Michigan really should have been his last job. Heā€™s in his late 60s, had a bypass operation a couple years back, and he runs a complex offensive system that takes a couple of years to fully implement. Cleveland was a train wreck but JB has always been a guy to tear down the existing foundation and build it back up, causing him to start slowly. Heā€™s not a hired gun who can step in and win right away. If he takes another job, I donā€™t think it will go well, at least not in the first couple of years, and by that point heā€™ll be pushing 70.

Itā€™ll be interesting to see what happens, but I certainly donā€™t want to see him back in the Big Ten.

If he comes back, I would love to see him at UCLA. He is welcome to build a powerhouse out west and reestablish their power while Michigan largely not having to deal with it much

By the time that job opens up again, he will be in his 70s so itā€™s pretty unlikely. By that time he will either be officially retired or be at another school.

You think Cronin is pretty secure there? That wasnā€™t my impression

In the words of Michigan State Spartans coaching legend Mark Dantonio, ā€œpride comes before the fallā€

Wouldnā€™t Texas be a reasonable guess? Nice job that should be open soon. And hell even Yak is already there (though heā€™ll be a HC soon)

This was a bad fit for so many reasons. Never made much sense to me.

I donā€™t know what kind of job would be a good fit. I just canā€™t really see him at a program like Texas. Just seems like a weird fit. He usually goes to rebuilding projects, but maybe he thinks he only has 4 years left so he should go big. Northwestern honestly makes the most sense out of what Iā€™ve heard but I donā€™t think heā€™s want to coach against Michiganā€¦ or maybe Iā€™m naive.

From my extremely selfish point of view I hope he retires. And it sounds like itā€™s been an incredibly tough few months so maybe he will. I certainly donā€™t think he ever planned on coaching in college again
