Cleveland Cavaliers hire John Beilein

Maybe he just joins Phil and Saddi on our sideline?

I could see Beilein taking a job where he could focus on teaching and player development. Some place where the players will stay and where recruiting wins are finding underrated prospects, rather than battling for players almost everyone wants.

Based on what he said in the past and where his wife is, I would imagine he doesn’t want to be any further away from Ann arbor than he is now. If she is still in Ann Arbor. No idea what’s going on with Patrick, or if that’s a factor.

Commentators then wouldnt be able to give you the classic, “John Beilein has never been an assistant coach.”

My completely uneducated and speculative prediction is that Beilein’s next and last job is an all-levels skills camp. He doesn’t want to recruit or deal with the Kevin Loves of the world, he can just teach fundamentals to players who want to learn fundamentals from John Beilein. In his spare time, he can break down tape and mentor Juwan, but not in an official capacity, because his skills camp will be based in Ann Arbor and he’ll want to be allowed to work with all of Juwan’s recruits in an unofficial capacity. The Cavs will be paying him for a few more years anyway. This is the way.

So what are the odds that Beilein is coaching a B10 team next year?

“I wasn’t saying you were playing like criminals, guys, honest, I was comparing you to subhuman slimy garden pests.”

Honestly if Beilein does want to return to college at a major program this is going be nightmare for him to recruit against.

Yeah, at this point I feel bad for JB. It’s obviously snowballing and his season has become a national story. A great man and a great coach is starting to be painted in an increasingly negative light. I think he may have been a little naive when he jumped to the Cavs and didn’t realize what he was getting into. That’s not a good organization and the team isn’t very talented. I don’t think he anticipated all of the challenges that would come with coaching NBA players.

There’s no excuse if he said that. Full stop.

The slugs not thugs excuse doesn’t really make it better IMO.

Also pretty clear there are people/forces working against him in the organization, to at least some extent. Who knows who or why, but the previous story that came out certainly didn’t just appear.

I mean…, I believe him? Maybe I’m naive but it goes against his reputation and makes more sense than thugs. I don’t see him saying that and then lying about it. Like if you didn’t actually mean to say slugs then saying you meant slugs would be rediculous

Wouldn’t be surprised if the coaching staff is a big part working against him. Thats the danger when you dont get to bring your guys, and let management make several hires.

I think him meaning to say slug is “believable” just from knowing how Beilein speaks and all the stuttering and word slips he routinely has.

But it doesn’t really matter, because no one in the NBA is going to believe that. And the optics of saying it and then seemingly having a crazy excuse is just so over the top.

Yeah. I was gonna add that you can get away with stuff like that in college. In the NBA people won’t forget that.

The players in the NBA aren’t going to buy that excuse and/or forget it. I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s done.
