Villanova is also a force in the DMV. Turgeon is under a lot of pressure to guard his yard. Most Terps fans here I’ve met are luke-warm on him.

My cousin and my fiancé’s best friend both married guys from Maryland and so I talk to them quite a bit without really knowing them and thus we connect over college basketball. They both hate Turgeon and I’ve never really understood it.
For sure. Juwan appearing at Michigan was bad news for Turgeon. And he knows it. There’s fear there.

One says that players get worse the longer they’re within the program, thinking Turgeon is actually a negative impact as a coach. I just don’t buy it, even though he’s a jerk.
He seems like the perfect kind of mediocre coach that would drive Maryland fans–who have real expectations–absolutely crazy. Don’t think they’ll be consistently elite under him, never terrible for any stretch so difficult to fire. He’s perfect.

I’m looking at his conference records over his career. The first 3 years in the ACC he went 6-10, 8-10 and 9-9. They probably blame him for that, and see the Big Ten as a step down.
Tomorrow the story will be the OSU game. This stuff is only news as long as Maryland was our last game.
Mark Turgeon better have a pretty good game plan, because if he wants to escalate. . . there’ a certain kind of recruit that this mediocre coach might never see again. Go ahead and try to demonize Juwan Howard at your own risk, Mark.
