Big Ten Discussion

In two games against MSU, Carsen Edwards shot 7-35. 5-24 from three.

Minnesota went up by 16 and promptly gave up an 11-0 run. 84-80 right now with 1:15 left.

I like the unique finish, but Iā€™m not a fan at all of the super thin side and base lines.

The good news is based on Minnesotaā€™s ā€œwin one, lose oneā€ streak of six games to start conference play, we are on schedule to beat them in Minny next month

There are only five teams in the Big Ten with a positive efficiency margin and only three teams in the league that play great defense

Well, I certainly enjoyed Purdue knocking off Sparty, but it does mean that PU is probably a serious B10 title contender now. They donā€™t play us or MSU again this year.

Yeah, Iā€™m also not sure they are good enough to roll over everyone though. Seem like a team that could still face some hiccups.

Iā€™m looking forward to you and Brendan trying to sort out that 6-10 range on the next pod. Looks like 1-5 is starting to become much more clear.

These two days really closed the effeciency gap between UM and MSU

Theyā€™d look even better if Michigan hadnā€™t coughed up that double-digit lead against Minnesota!

But Michigan and MSU will likely lose again too. And the safe bet right now is that they will split when they play too. I still think Michigan or MSU will won the regular season but Purdue our their names into the hat now as well.

My point is that Purdue seems to have a record ceiling probably of about 15-5 if everything goes right. Right now, odds are that UM or MSU finishes with fewer than 5 losses IMO.

MSU is predicted to go 17-3 by Kenpom FWIW.

While looking at that I noticed Iowa is the only game in which his model has us at lower than 70% win expectancy until the MSU gameā€¦

It was obviously a great win today, but are you buying Purdue as the 7th best team in the country like Kenpom and Torvik have them at?

Yeah thatā€™s fair and I agree with that.

Itā€™s not just computer efficiency numbers anymore with Purdue, they have a pretty good resume with wins vs MSU, MD, Iowa, Ind and @Wiscy, @OSU. They still have no bad losses - neutral court vs ND is by far the worst, and otherwise itā€™s @UM, @MSU, @VTech, @FSU, and @Tex. Theyā€™re also done playing Wiscy. I agree itā€™s hard to see them winning the Big Ten with Michigan and MSU there, but itā€™s pretty easy to see them winning a bunch of games and ending up with a 3 seed or something like that. Iā€™m just as happy Michigan doesnā€™t go there.

I just read a small portion of an article on the Athletic that Seth Davis wrote about Carsen Edwards. The article was about the growth of Carsen Edwards or something to that effect. Heā€™s a quote from the part I read referring to yesterdayā€™s game vs Michigan State. Davis said, ā€œIt wasnā€™t good enough for him to be the best player on the court, he had to be the smartest.ā€ All I can say is, WHAT? He was certainly NOT the best player on the court yesterday vs MSU and he was not the smartest either. Iā€™m just scratching my head. Davis lost some credibility with me.

Now, in fairness I didnā€™t read the entire article because itā€™s premium and Iā€™m not a member. Perhaps Davis went on to point out the mental mistakes that Edwards still makes in his attempt to be the ā€œhero.ā€ Perhaps he pointed out that Cassius Winston was actually both the best player and the smartest player on the floor yesterday. I donā€™t know, but it sure seemed like he was gushing on Carsen Edwards. Youā€™d almost have thought he didnā€™t actually see the game!

Itā€™s just typical writer fluff. I think he was just saying that he tried to keep in his head in the game and try to be as smart as possible

Any mention of when Cassius just blew by him from 30 feet out, just blew by him, made him look sick, and took it to the hole to get the score down to six?
