You apparently didnā€™t read the memo that Coleman-Hawkins is required to be a breakout candidate and star in any conversation about 2022 Illinois. No word on whether that memo was written by the Brandon Johns fan club or not.

Nah.

They have a lot of returning minutes from a mediocre bubble tournament team. Other teams have more unknowns, which hurts the rankings, but likely unlocks a higher upside when we find out which new players are legit

Surprised Indianaā€™s defense is projected to be so good. I donā€™t remember them standing out as great last few seasons. (Looks like they ended up #24 in Kenpom defense last year.)

Iā€™m starting to get that vibe too, but 22nd for them nationally offensively feels like such a stretch. Their O rating was worse last year than any point under Miller. Even looking late in the year, their offensive efficiency didnā€™t get better in February or March.

Iā€™m guessing it was a copy/paste and the forum software auto-generated the list using Iowaā€™s #12 ranking as the starting point (although MSU is #13).

I think thereā€™s some value in outlier ranking systems if you include them in a mash up of lots of ranking systems but Miyaā€™s stuff is definitely an outlier whenever I end up looking at it.

Reading an analysis he did early on in the pandemic made me think there was some value in an extremely niche blog/newsletter focusing on how statistics are commonly used (and misused) in sports discussions. Itā€™s made me mistrust his stuff ever since.

I think he uses his model for predictions but I donā€™t know how accurate they are. Iā€™ve seen sites that compare different predictive models for college football (SP+, Pi-rate, FEI, etc.) Wonder it thereā€™s one for basketball.

Iā€™m probably not saying much that you guys donā€™t already know (certainly not about Michigan) but my preview covering them, Maryland, and Michigan State is up.
