Also found this interesting: of the 5 teams at the bottom of both the B1G standings and KenPom ranks (Penn State, Wisconsin, Nebraska, Ohio State, Minnesota), this is how many times out of a maximum 10 and minimum 5 that each winning B1G team got to play that group:
Purdue is a fine team, but they are starting two true freshman non-5* guards. Edey has carried them through a weak Big Ten and they’ll likely win the conference, but they just aren’t equipped to make a March run.
Interesting observation. They look to Edey so much that if you can make sure he has anything less than a wildly dominant game then with a mediocre shooting day from outside it’s possible to stay in front of them. IU, at least in a couple of recent games I’ve watched, having long stretches as a well-oiled and more versatile machine.
I didn’t see the game so I watched the extended highlights. There were at least three times I went, “Oh, so here’s where Iowa started their comeback…” And then they’d miss a shot and MSU would knock down free throws.
Crazy how long MSU’s win probability was at the 99% level.
