Big Ten Basketball 2022-23 Discussion

Interesting that Kobe’s 81 point game is not on here. Couldn’t get those 15 assists!

The research necessary to look that one up must have been something. “Found one! Oh wait, he only shot 59% - blast!”

Things are not going great in Minneapolis

Couldn’t bring himself to play for a school that only plays 19 Big Ten games!

Did he expect them to be good when he signed there?

I doubt he expected them to be significantly worse than last season.

I wasn’t the biggest Richard Pitino fan but that firing is looking pretty iffy at the moment.

Hiring Ben Johnson was a far worse decision than firing Richard Pitino.

Johnson was definitely a headscratcher. But was there anyone good out there for them? Minnesota seems to like firing guys with no good plan to replace them.

Pitino’s tenure might have gotten stale but they seemed competitive, at least. He’s doing pretty well at UNM now.

I do think that was a classic case of both sides needing a reset. Seems to have worked out well for Pitino. Minnesota not so much but that could very easily be because of the hire they made.

I mean, you could hire basically anyone other than an assistant at Xavier.

There were much better options than Johnson. I was caping for them to hire Nico Medved. He had just started at Colo St but he did great things at Furman which is a very tough place to win. He’s also an alum. He’s a 10x better coach than Ben Johnson.

They hired him because they thought he could recruit the local area…? But he was an assistant for a time for their fired coach who they were mad at for not getting local talent. If he could get local talent why didn’t he do it while at Minnesota? It’s just such a wild thing for a program like Minnesota to hire a Big East assistant (for their worst stretch in a long time for a disgraced nepotism hire)/one that was an assistant for your fired coach.

Chris Holtmann has reached the “Rival coaches going to bat for you” stage.

4D chess pumping up Holtmann so he doesn’t compete for the ND job.

Dennis Evans got a CB for Louisville, so I guess the issue is that Minnesota isn’t a big enough disaster for him.

That actually is hilarious. Minnesota 247 staff says it’s 99% NIL related.

In case any one was wondering Minnesota fans are out on CBJ
